Maybe it would have been a good idea to face her brother in private for their very first meeting, but Mila had been rushing to get out of the castle she was born in and pleaded to be sent to Auradon Prep as soon as possible—her excuse was an eagerness to learn how to be good. Her real reason was watching the woman who birthed her look at her the way she did and the man who was supposed to be her father seem so grief-stricken was too much to bear.
Even still, her curiosity got the better of her. Despite her internal scolding to stay away, the isle-raised princess found herself already close to the tourney field. Mila took a seat on the bleachers, watching the uniformed and helmeted boys run and chase each other according to rules of a game she didn’t know or care to understand, wondering which one of these pampered princes happened to be her older brother.
