Penelope had no business going near the crime scene, and the first person who stopped her would have no trouble discovering that. She always looked like she had a terrible secret whenever she was lying, and she was the furthest thing from a detective, or anything else remotely qualified to solve this crime. But she was very good at uncovering plots and beating back monsters, and as long as Baz's name was on that suspect list, she was going to do everything she could to clear it. It wasn't fair to target him just because he was a vampire. (Merry Morgana, now she was the sort of person who defended vampires.) (Well, not all vampires. Just the good ones. And as far as she knew, there was only one.)
She was sure she looked totally shifty as she picked her way through the crime scene tape, trying to ignore the fact that there had very recently been a body here. She clutched her purple gemstone in her fist, feeling the reassuring swell of magic in the air. If there was one positive thing she could say about Wales, it was that it wasn't America, and there were no dead spots here because, small as this town was, at least it was actual civilization. She did really need to get her ring reset though. Keeping track of the gem was giving her constant anxiety.
"Come out, come out, wherever you are!" She said the words with magic, waiting for a clue to make itself apparent, but nothing happened. "Olly olly oxen free!" Nothing. A slight frown formed between her brows. "Scooby-Dooby-Doo, where are you!" Anything hidden should have made itself known by now, but the scene was unchanged. Maybe there was nothing to find. Probably, actual detectives had already been over this spot. "Maybe something more subtle," she mused aloud, running through possible spells in her head. She wished Baz were here. He had a gift for a well-chosen turn of phrase.
