- fill your balcony with edible plants and herbs. build a study corner on your balcony, surrounded by roses. smell the good air. don’t be afraid of bees, they’re your friend. collect seeds and plant them the next year or gift them to your friends.
- make your own journal with self-made paper. take it wherever you go. decorate it with pressed flowers. Make your own ink. Use it.
- start a book exchange box in your street: take a wooden box, put some old books of yours in it and write a sign. use it.
- plant seeds in backyards illegally. tend to them. do your research which ones might be the best for the spot you’ve chosen. seed bombs are great but some might need more water than the area can give them. make it a community effort.
- thrift books instead of buying new ones. If the cover isn’t pretty enough, design a linen wrap or just out of painted waste paper.
- fix your own clothes. sew them. don’t buy new ones if you don’t need them, and if you do so, do it in thrift stores. take care you don’t choose textiles containing plastics. Simple, elegant clothes in dark academia tones are timeless.
- go on long train rides with your friends or just to study. Live inside communal spaces. go to climate change demonstrations.
- make your own food. make your own snacks. panna cotta in empty jam jars is ridiculously easy and fucking delicious. try out ancient recipes.
- go hiking with your friends. have long discussions about poetry and greek philosophers by the campfire. Go on a Grand Tour if you’ve got the money. Backpack.
- support small businesses, indie artists. boycot nestle and amazon. if you have to order, look for it on amazon and then contact the supplier directly.
- find creative solutions to your problems. go off the beaten path. throw nothing away, but reuse and DIY.
