Mikasa leaned against the tree, smoke gray eyes looking down at the gorgeous flowers of crimson color. She was done with the training for today, though she hadn’t taken off her ODM gear yet. It should still be of good use a bit later.
The girl lifted up her eyes once she heard the door creaking open. Captain went out of his so-called house, that resembled a tent with wooden walls, as did all the other buildings by the sea. Levi noticed her immediately, raising his eyebrows at the sight of Mikasa in full uniform.
“I need your help,” she stated before he could ask anything. “I think my gear doesn’t work properly.”
“What’s wrong?”
“The left wire is malfunctioning,” Mikasa said dryly, turning away from Levi and pointing him to follow her into the woods.
They got deeper into the forest area, both remaining silent for the entire walk. Levi glanced at Mikasa a few times, but decided to wait for some explanation. As they could no longer see the camp, Mikasa stopped, taking the left controller in her hand. She launched the wire forward, the hook getting anchored to the tree trunk in front of them.
“Well, it works just fine,” Levi noted in a flat voice, his eyes studying the tight wire.
“Yeah, but it wouldn’t retract.” Mikasa pulled the lever demonstratively, but nothing happened.
She followed her Captain, who started striding forward, intending to check the hook. “Why would you anchor it to the tree in this case? How are you gonna get it out?” The hook was attached at shoulder height, so Levi tried to pull it out, grasping the wire and using the tree as a support. He managed to move it a bit, but soon the anchor got stuck in the wood.
“I’ll get it fixed and then just put it back in the coil,” Mikasa shrugged, disconnecting the gas cylinders and placing them on the ground. The other mechanisms were put nearby. Mikasa took the coil in her hands, getting the entire wire out of it. “I believe it can hang here for a couple of days.”
“Then how could I help you?”
Mikasa’s smile was an answer for him, and Levi could’ve called it soft if he hadn’t noticed a playful spark in her big eyes. She took a few steps forward, forcing her Captain to draw back, his body now pressed against the tree trunk near the hook. Mikasa grabbed Levi by the shoulders, lowering her face, her lips almost brushing against his but stopping just there.
His lips parted, but she did nothing, instead her fingers were gently gliding across his collarbone. Tired of waiting, Levi lifted his arms, meaning to grab Mikasa by the waist and pull her closer.
“Hands by your side. And stand still,” Mikasa commanded, her voice almost a whisper to his ear, but her authoritative tone made Levi obey. The tone she learned from him.
Satisfied, Mikasa stepped to the side, her head turning away from Captain. Not sure what she was going to do, Levi moved a bit, deciding to follow her.
“What have I said?” Mikasa looked back instantly, her gaze boring fiercely into the steely blue eyes. Levi smirked, but stepped back to the trunk and stood still, as she ordered. He could argue with her, even reverse the roles, but he knew better than to do that.
Levi watched curiously as Mikasa picked up the wire and started walking with it around the tree, pinning him to the trunk. She made a few extra coils around his wrists and ankles to secure the position of his arms and legs. Mikasa stopped occasionally, making sure it was not too tight or painful for Levi. The girl finished her handiwork by going around the nearby tree and fastening the wire there with a complicated knot. The knot she learned from him.
“Why bother so much? I would stand still.” Levi cocked his eyebrow, checking the mobility of his body in this state. Well, he could take a deep breath unhindered, but not much more than that.
“Since it’s on hand, why not.” The wire went across his chest and stomach, lowering to his mid-thighs and finally ankles, leaving the area in between unattached. It gave Levi some idea of the future activities, so he stopped asking questions and just waited for the nicer part.
Mikasa moved closer to him, touching Levi’s cheek with her thumb and trailing it to his soft lips. She caught her lower lip between her teeth, holding Levi’s intense gaze. Her free hand lifted to his ear, fingertips drawing a line down the veins on his neck.
Levi sighed, closing his eyes for a moment, and the last straw of patience left Mikasa. She crashed her lips against his, one hand moving into his hair, the other one exploring Levi’s chest, gliding over the wire and Levi’s shirt. Mikasa tasted the mint tea as her tongue found its way into his mouth. She was quickly losing control, biting his lips, pulling his hair, grabbing his shirt.
A soft moan escaped her slightly swollen lips as Mikasa pressed her body fully against his. Her demanding kisses and scorching touches worked Levi up pretty quickly, the bulge growing in his pants. Okay, you need to stop if you don’t want to make this even more uncomfortable. And it’s already time.
She ran her tongue over Levi’s lower lip before stepping back from him. “Sorry,” Mikasa barely whispered, trying to calm down. Captain looked at her bewildered, wondering what game she had decided to play.
“Listen, they showed me their idea, it’s not as crazy as it sounds.” Mikasa’s words didn’t help Levi at all. His ears caught some noises that were coming from the side of the camp. Somebody was definitely approaching them, and soon Levi was even able to identify the intruder. And then it clicked in his head.
“Oh, fuck, no.” He instantly pushed his entire body against the wire, but it did nothing, Levi didn’t even hear the sound of the hook moving inside the wood. The knot on the other end also didn’t show any hint of loosening.
“Ah, Levi, I’m so glad you will be able to listen to me!” The cheerful voice made him even angrier, so Levi was desperately spending his energy on a nonexistent chance to escape the grip.
“You better start thinking of your dying wish, brat,” Levi barked at Mikasa, who moved aside to the nearby tree. “You’re so fucking dead.” His gaze was furious to say the least, steel sparking with the readiness to kill, but Mikasa was hardly suppressing her laughter. It was fascinating to watch the humanity’s strongest soldier writhing like that. She was glad she made the right call. The wires with the hooks were designed to withstand far more than the weight of an average person.
Eventually, Hange approached the Ackermans, a wide grin on their face and a stack of papers in their hands. Mikasa greeted the Commander, trying to ignore Levi, who was still throwing threats at her.
“Oh, Mikasa, I can’t thank you enough,” Hange sang, bringing hands with papers to their chest. “You don’t have to stay if you have something else to do. But I would ask you to untie him once we’re done. He will kill me if I try to do that.”
Mikasa did have something else to do, but she assumed Jean would cover her duties for some time. She just couldn’t miss it.
“Hange, I’ll kill you anyway,” Levi hissed with all the hate that he managed to find in himself.
“Come on, Levi, you’re not productive with all these threats,” Hange waved their hand at him, their tone devoid of fear. “So, I was wondering if we could make some kind of underwater ship…”
“No, Hange, I don’t wanna hear your bullshit. That enormous pool of water is already dangerous enough. And you wanna do some underwater shit? Sounds more like you would like to drown yourself voluntarily.” It was hard to speak that long through his teeth, but Levi succeeded.
“I’m sure the mainland already uses this kind of technology, we could ask Marleyans for assistance and…”
“No.”
“I knew you would say that. But I brought you blueprints. It’s not as impossible and dangerous as it sounds.” Hange buried themselves in the papers, looking for the right drawings to start with.
Mikasa got away from the tree, taking careful steps towards Levi. He was eyeing her closely, lips pressed into a thin line, a deep wrinkle on his forehead.
“Can you even imagine what I’ll do to you?” Levi warned her one more time, but as Mikasa got closer to him, he realized his threats sounded sweet rather than frightening to her. A small sigh of defeat left his mouth, his gaze still locked on Mikasa’s dark eyes.
“Yeah,” she whispered, biting her lower lip again, “can’t wait, Captain.”
