Act 1: Grim Tidings

Scene 3: Small Favours

Bixby Knoll is a secluded town built by dwarves for dwarves. The Scions had to drive past a lot of signs warning people to keep away, but Ola assured them they the signs are just there to keep people from stumbling upon the town.

Ola’s family were of course very grateful to the Scions for rescuing her and Cybil. Cybil had become a close friend of the dwarves due to helping them out with some legal work. Even though Abigail in particular was eager to leave to head after the Heart of Winter, she was convinced to stay for coffee and pie. Ola explained that she and three other dwarves had been kidnapped while out shopping. Ola asked Barry to tell the story of their rescue and he did so with great aplomb. The dwarves were particularly impressed with Samuel St Vital’s skills at fighting with a pick axe. They were angered and saddened to hear about the trolls though. It turns out that a troll is what a dwarf turns into when force-fed Jotunblut. (giant blood.) It’s an irreversible process. The dwarves weren’t upset at the Scions for killing the trolls. “Better dead than a troll,” they say. 

The dwarves began to argue then about whether or not they should help the Scions out on their quest. While they were arguing, a big black SUV roared past the house. It was the same car that had kidnapped Ola and her friends. Sure enough, the three giants who had been helping Robrek were back to capture more dwarves. They were armed with aluminium baseball bats.

The Scions went out through a back door to preform a sneak attack on the giants. The rest of the dwarf community armed themselves with axes, guns and cross bows and went to help them out. The giants didn’t last long against the horde. In the commotion, Robrek broke out of the Scions’ trunk and tried to get away. Samuel downed him once and for all with his pick axe. He was encouraged by the dwarves chanting “Samuel Pick Axe! Samuel Pick Axe!” 

After the battle, a young dwarf asked Sam to sign his pick axe for him, which Sam did gladly. He shall be known as Samuel Pick Axe amongst the dwarves forever more.
