The normal outgoing loud mouthed owl is quiet and reserved, not bothering to express his emotions and feelings. It's terrifying to Akaashi. He's tried everything he could think of; from compliments to gifts; nothing works. Bokuto just shrugs him off and mumbles a soft thank you before leaving. The setter is in a bind.
Normally Bokuto snaps right out of it fairly quickly, but for some reason this has been going on for about a week or so. He just can't figure it out. It's been effecting the team's performance lately too; the couch had approached Akaashi asking if he knew what was wrong with the captain. His answer wasn't to be expected, since it was a no, he had no clue on what was wrong.
Quietly, Akaashi sighs, running his fingers through his raven hair; his gaze locked on the older man standing before him, arms crossed and frowning. Should he say something? Or would it only make things worse? The setter took a small step forward, stopping immediately when Bokuto turned around to face him; brows furrowed, a large grown tugging at the corners of his lips.
Watching as Bokuto uncrossed his arms, Akaashi toyed with his fingers a bit; nervously waiting for what the other as going to say. He seemed to debate, just silently starting at the setter. It felt like forever as they stared at one another, silence looming over them; until Bokuto opened his mouth.
"Akaashi-", he paused, biting his lower lip as he adverted his eyes; the tips of his ears dusting a light pink, "I've been thinking of ways to ask this? I've even asked Kuroo! Who.. Gave advice that I'm not gonna use; he's my bro but it was really weird listening to his advice. Maybe taking it would be better? I don't know, but-"
Akaashi breathed out a little, eyes crinkling happily at the way the other was rambling. Softly, he interrupted the man, "Bokuto-san, calm down." He placed a hand on Bokutos shoulder, giving it a light squeeze in reassurance; the earlier anxiety returning. He wondered what got Bokuto all flustered, noting the way Bokutos cheeks started to dust a light red, as his ears.
"Do you want to go out?!" Bokuto yelled suddenly, after a beat of silence; startling the setter.
Akaashis eyes widened at the question, his brain scrambling to catch up; as his face felt warmer than before. He scanned Bokutos face; realizing the longer he stayed silent, the more Bokuto looked dejected; his mouth forming an upset pout.
"Yes, I'd like to, Bokuto-san." He finally answered, hand falling from the others shoulder. Now it was his time to avert his eyes, as he toyed with his fingers once more. His heart was pounding, his hands feeling clammy. He was? Just asked out? By Bokuto? He still really couldn't wrap his head around the words, but his answering being yes felt right.
He remained relatively composed though, despite his inner turmoil; a smile curling at his lips as Bokuto whooped loudly; pulling him into a bone crushing hug. Bokuto spun around, still holding the setter: who's smile only got wider.
"Guys! Practice is over go home!" The couch called out to the two; startling them both. They looked at each other, then at the clock.
Right, it was over. Akaashis smile dropped off his face, eyes finding Bokutos. "Let's go home, Bokuto-san."
--
After they parted ways; Akaashi covered the bottom of his flushed face; eyes following Bokutos back as he walked away-, and against all odds, he called out, "Bokuto-san! Do you want to stay the night at my house? My mother won't mind.."
Bokuto turns around and with the brightest grin he ever had, he screamed back, "Yes!"
Stifling his laughter, the setter waited as Bokuto runs back to him, scooping him up into his arms. "This means I can carry you home!" He cheers loudly, snuggling his face against Akaashis; who was greatly embarrassed at the action.
"I can walk."
"I'm carrying you!"
".. Alright, Bokuto-san. Don't drop me."
Bokuto laughed, holding Akaashi tighter; "I won't!"
Grinning softly, Akaashi relaxes in Bokutos embrace as he carried the setter the entire way home.
Akaashi admittedly wasn't much of a touchy feely person, but he enjoyed being carried.. Don't tell Bokuto, he'll try to carry him everywhere.
----
To be honest, Akaashi was glad that Bokuto wasn't seriously upset.. The question did startle him though.
Glancing over at the other, who was sprawled out and snoring, Akaashi let a smile form on his lips; genuine and soft. He reached over and brushed his finger tip against Bokutos cheek, a gentle feather of a touch; so he didn't wake him. He wasn't worried about waking up Bokuto; he's a heavy sleeper.
He couldn't complain. Having a cuddly owl for a boyfriend wasn't so bad.. Until Bokuto tried to smother him as he sleeps. Akaashi swears he's never sleeping next to him again. Bokuto also slapped him in the face like-, three times!
.. Spoiler alert.. He breaks that swear. Tis be cutes.
