“Black history is not just American history. It’s modern history. It’s not just modern history. It’s human history.” Last month @brothecornelwest spoke these words at a seminar I attended as part of my @yahoo #AllyshipAnd pledge to commit to educating myself and using my platform to engage my audience in being active allies. We know these words are true, but we also know that our school system has fallen short when it comes to educating students on Black history. By devoting more time and resources to teaching Black history, students can begin to fully understand the systems in our country that need to be changed, and why the Black community is calling for this change. Preparing future generations to become active allies is a crucial step in dismantling racism. @yahoo’s Allyship program has put together the assets on the following slides and I’m encouraging you to reflect on them, have conversations, and share this guide. Tag your local Department of Education members and let them you know you want them to teach for Black lives.
