Death Note x Platinum End opening
My friend @micah-draws and I were talking and they literally just went, “What if Ohba and Obata were writing about themselves, and they were just Light and L” , and idk why but that made me absolutely lose it
Aiba and Nino: *knocks on Ohno's door*
Ohno: Who is it?
Nino: It's us. We just want to talk.
Ohno: How many of you are there?
Aiba: uhmm two.
Ohno: Then talk to each other.
The posts on Death Note saying that L wouldn't really care that Light is Kira are mistaken.
L actually says in the anime and musical that he really hopes Light isn't Kira, because Light is his first real friend. Given that L feels lonely and has always wanted a friend, this is pretty significant.
In the anime, L washes Light's feet to apologise for imprisoning Light. When Light holds L as L is dying, L grips Light's shoulder to comfort Light, until L realises that Light is Kira.
I think people are saying they'd never be charmed by Light and that L would never care about Light because:
1. They're projecting themselves onto L, and
2. They can see how evil Light is.
L doesn't see how evil Light is until L's dying. He doesn't get to see Light at his worst the way we (the audience) do.
What Ohba meant to show (I think) is the devastation caused by someone as charming and cruel by someone like Light.
All the people saying Light desperately wanted L to notice and love him - I...don't get where they got that impression.
I think Light cared partly about L's opinion because he saw L as an intelligent equal.
But Light was never going to care about anyone else more than himself. If he cared desperately and loved L, he never would have lied to, manipulated or killed L in the first place.
Edit: I'm not saying people should love each other desperately - that sounds unhealthy. Of course people should love each other, but they should respect each other's boundaries without being codependent or needy.
And I know that L and Light's friendship and romance is unhealthy, given that Light is manipulates and kills L, whereas L arrested Light. I'm pretty sure Death Note fans would never want a relationship like L and Light's relationship in real life.
Just because people enjoy analysing L and Light's relationship in fiction, doesn't mean they want that kind of twisted relationship for themselves in reality.
