My, thank you, anon!! While I often joke I understand Sir Arthur Conan Doyle being haunted by the specter of his most famous work, overshadowing all else... upon rereading My Name is Hikari! a while back, I had to admit it had all the aspects of my genfic too (strong emphasis on Pokemon-trainer bonds, friendship, including minor aspects of characters' backstories, includes friends and family too instead of ignoring those bonds in favour of the potentially romantic)... so, it's really not completely uncharacteristic of my usual work, it just has an additional element and reading that makes it popular with more people.
I also do love Shinji and Hikari still!!! I just wish a lot of fandom didn't flatten Shinji's character or excuse his cruelty, he's fascinating partly because of those traits!!! So fun to explore him and his interactions with others. ♡♡♡
I was so proud of him in his return episode!!! Shinji now understanding the importance of play, him being a kind presence in Goukazaru (Infernape)'s life, from a distance, no longer his trainer, but someone who will greet him and show interest in how he's been and see him off... that was lovely. I always knew he could change. He's still young and learning. ;_;
