...i forgot lol :)  so there was this word in AHD. which literally meant rider (a horse rider) derived from the verb to ride. cause they didn’t have any knights back then (a long-ass explanation of when and how the whole social institute of knighthood was established, to follow). (actually the english knight is the geran knecht which is... a bit of a different story. compare).  okay so. then there were two words in MHD. either two homonyms or one words with several meanings. that depends. either way, one of them is the old one, rider. the other is knight. they’re spelled differently. and this last one, the word for knight, is believed to be a translation or germanization of a word fro old french (guess why).
