OITT liza :)
She's probably the alpha doing the best in this au. pretty harsh and direct with the animals that have stayed with her; given she has to be to keep them alive. she's so tired

Hart - The Giraffe Alpha
they've been developed a bit differently now so I. want to share <33
-
Hart is the Giraffe Alpha of a Jamaa that has already fallen and been absorbed by the Phantom Dimension. In attempt to flee their failing world, they stole the stones from the other alphas, hoping it would give them the power to escape. (Which, of course, doomed the alphas they stole from)
The stones did NOT give them that power- but their actions against their fellow alphas instead fueled them with dark magic, which DID allow them to escape into OITT via dimension-hopping, much like phantoms do.
They've been around for a long time in OITT now. Like. Since Star and Fang were alive. Their earrings are shattered pieces of the sabertooth and dire wolf heartstones, and they probably wear them like this just out of spite that yet another world (OITT) ends up falling to phantoms <3
Current-era OITT they still exist and are doing fine, since phantoms magic/pollution cannot corrupt them due to their status as a dark-aligned alpha. They're a bit jaded and mean for basically no reason half the time

oitts queen is a good mom :)
so. new phantom type for au :]
mesmer phantoms look insanely similar to commons, minus a few tentacles and weird eye, and it's on purpose! their extra tentacles cover their face/eye, typically, and folks are more likely to engage/confront a phantom if they think it's just your average ole common.
aquatic mesmers aren't portrayed fully here, but they take more insp from anemones and sirens! they can move, but are often stationary. and have verrrry long, forked tentacles. a mesmer + mimic combo/work pair is horrible and annoying for everyone involved <3
OITT Intro
hi realized this aus info isn't really readily accessible sooo. heres. some. may do more. this is just a summarized story and i have soso much more info <3 including past info w/baloosh and star/fang and all that
-
OITT takes place in the future, and is an alternate universe where Phantoms won, and gained the upper-hand around the time of "Return of the Phantoms".
The reason for their victory, is that around the time of that adventures, Phantoms come back LATER (with the queen here being. smarter. than the canon one. and taking her time, letting her subjects learn and adapt)- but still WAY before the Alphas return to Jamaa. Which, in their absence, tensions had been rising among animals.
Another thing that led to Jamaas' defeat was that animals had severely underestimated the phantoms, as they had only ever seen Fester & Phlegm (the twin kings in this au that look like the canon kings appearance-wise); which lead to them assuming all phantom kings looked and behaved exactly like that. They were not prepared at all for the five whole other kings.
Mira, in this mess, ended up passing away from the phantom queen herself, and Zios- DESPITE having the capability to help, maybe even potentially save animals, decided to flee afterwards.
-
Current-Era in AU, animals are few and far between (though phantoms are absolutely thriving, with tons of new types, and the old types taking their appearance and abilities to more extreme levels), with the main seven (well. six. tavie didn't really have a chance in the ocean) alphas still around, just. In... not the best condition?
General summary of the alphas still around though;
Liza - the most competent by a LOT. has totally dropped being caring and understanding and is now harsh and more often than not, brutal.
Gilbert - a coward! he has a group of animals but he himself will not fight alongside them and would rather them do all the work. he'd cry if he saw a king <3
Greely - literally an actual spy for the phantoms! not by choice, he isn't a bad guy, he just got caught and put in a bad situation
Graham - captured by Golgi in the phantom fortress, struggling with his outlook on phantoms because Golgis actually grown on him as a person quite a bit, despite Graham being imprisoned. They like talking about nerd stuff
Cosmo - sad and lonely! isn't even trying to help animals, but all alphas have lost their magic and even his natural plant magic isn't much use because all non-corrupt plants are long gone. he's turned to talking to the phantom plants recently, though <3
Peck - trying to help but on the run more often than not. keeps trying to get closer to the hive OR the fortress to see if phantoms are planning anything worse (spoiler, they're not. they're quite content as is honestly)
aj short story
uhmm a short story regarding the queen in OITT and plasm... little drabble :]
-
Given the other options, the Queen had thought she had made a great decision; bringing another king around- a mimic, no less! A king that could finally squash those pesky animals' trust in one another, a master manipulator who could tear the Alphas apart from the inside out!
What she hadn't considered, though, was just how bothersome this young king would be.
Sure, she thought. They've all started a bit... uncertain. Weird, even. Chloro, with her ever-growing disdain towards other phantoms. Golgi, with their awkward, geeky demeanor. But those two had- mostly- grown away from those traits as they aged.
And so she expected that to play out the same way with this new king, Plasm. She waited for them to find their place within the hive.
And waited.
And waited.
And yet, here she stood. Carefully observing each and every phantom in her most hardened, battle-ready battalion. Her gaze fixed carefully on each troop for at least a few fretful minutes, before shifting over to the next tense phantom in line.
Plasm hadn't been seen around the hive for a few days. That never happens- it couldn't!
They always had to show themselves at least once a day, be it by scaring the soul out of some poor ground soldier by taking the form of an armed animal, or awkwardly informing the queen that they- in their foolish, reckless stupor- had broken yet another vital cog in the fortress.
They had to be up to something. And the Queen wasn't stupid! Busy? Yes. Frustrated and about to snap? Absolutely. But not stupid. She knows her kings, like the back of her tentacle!
Wait.
She blinks back over to the heavy soldier she'd just examined. A deep orange heavy, whose name is Sludge, if she recalls correctly- a loyal soldier, with scars to show it!
...But this heavy had no scars. The color was right, the size, the behavior. But it seemed to lack Sludge's battle-worn demeanor.
With a quick, sudden movement that gained shouts of terror from her soldiers surrounding her target, she scooped the heavy up before it even noticed her suspicious once-over.
" Young King! " She chided, her singular eye narrowed in a specific kind of certainty many residents of the Hive knew all too well. The previous terror covering the faces of the surrounding soldiers melted into amusement.
" Do you think this is appropriate? "
A pause from the faux-heavy, then a plea;
" Your Highness- I, uh, don't- "
The Queen cut them off, quickly, and firmly,
" Plasm. I know it's you. Don't try to act coy with me. "
The heavy stiffened a bit. Shit. They had been caught.
With a childish, frustrated groan. The form of the large phantom simply seemed to dissolve. First into goo, and then slowly but surely, into a much- much larger form. Their previous burgundy color changing to a much more vibrant, ombre violet.
"Mom! I was having fun- it was harmless- Sludge allo- " They were cut off, yet again.
" No excuses! I don't have time to hear it, you know the hives have been especially busy these past few weeks with the planned invasion! Right now is not the time for your shenanigans! " The Queen snapped, hoisting the king up with one tentacle.
Sometimes, just sometimes, she wonders if she made the right decision with hand-raising each and every unique king. This one was certainly testing her patience. A constant thorn in her side that never seemed to-
She blinked.
" ...What did you say, dear? "
" I said Sludge allowed it! He's off with his buddies somewhere in the fortress! " Plasm blurted, defensively. Their defiant leer never faltering.
Her one eye narrowed further, somehow. Into genuine, unfiltered rage.
Plasm could wait. She thinks maybe, just maybe.
She would have to have a talk with someone later.
