“you should sleep,” lawliet says blankly. he’s working late as per usual, youre laying on the office couch behind him. you couldnt remember the last time lawliet slept, but in a way, you’ve grown to be comforted in the silence. you two know each other well enough to not need to care about talking so much.
you stay silent for a moment before responding. “i’m not tired” you say. it’s a lie, your exhausted. everyone is. the kira case has weighed heavy on everyone on the task force, including you. “yes you are,” he rebutted. you say nothing again because you know he’s right. he hears you turn, assuming your back is facing his now.
“i’ll be here when you wake up,” he reassures, continuing to sort files and look through evidence. you stay silent again. you close your eyes. you can hear his chair swivel but you dont see the way his tired, lost eyes look at you with love. you hear nothing but the softest “good night” as you fall asleep.
