I like drawing him a little pathetic
This has been a Garroth sponsored post
I think Aphmau should have been allowed to be just a teensy bit mad at him. Come on Jess, please, just a little bit. Just a tiny bit. Just let him squirm around a bit. pretty please
The last two were inspired by my rewatch of season 1; once Laurance actually meets Garroth and is like, “Oh, Garroth? Yeah he’s chill,” meanwhile Garroth canonically wrote in a suicide pact for him and tried to convince Aph to kick him out. Which, in all reasonable senses, is a genuine concern (Laurance being a fucking shadow knight and all), but I’m pretty sure it’s more-so implied it’s because he’s being a jealous asshole. It’s funny because it’s a justified pattern of thought, but on his end of things.. it’s really not. Garroth, this is the same man that jokes about marrying a table and spends 40% of Season 2 yearning for you and Aphmau. Be so fucking forreal.
Such weirdos.
Real talk though: I like to imagine that Garroth really does try to stray from the customs of O’khasis; and he does, he’s kind in several aspects. But, I think several of their patterns of thinking leak into his actions, which is really seen in his jealous actions (and ofc the ending of S1), in which he’s bound to act for his own benefit (subconsciously or not). It’s not until he’s freed from the Irene Dimension, at the cost of someone’s life, that he gets increasingly more paranoid about his way of thinking and going about things. Which is because, duh, he cost his loved ones 15 years of their lives and a death. That is bound to take a toll on someone. So he’s like, “Yeah.. I got some undiagnosed shit.” Which, he does. Several things, actually.
On that note: shoutout to the person who added “Lullaby for a princess” into their Garroth playlist. You are so RIGHT. That is PEAK THINKING. Why didn’t I think of that.. ohhhh the Ro’Meave brothers angst potential I was reminded of. Really threw me back to the 2017 mcd (and mystreet??) animatics era. I miss those.
ON THE APHMAU SIDE OF THINGS (because who am I if I leave her out): I think she would definitely be on edge after Garroth’s betrayal. Maybe spending a good amount of time thinking where she herself messed up, or what she didn’t notice (because “how could I have missed something?? As a lord, as a leader, as a friend??”) Kind of like the five stages of grief. Until she, eventually, hits the anger stage; in which she’s just, super pissed at Garroth. Mainly because he cost her 15 years of her life with her kids. And then, of course, Aaron’s death. But I think Laurance spends a good amount of time reminding her that people make their choices, and she can’t necessarily fix or mend something that was never her problem to begin with.
Speaking of Laurance. I can’t remember who, but someone brought up how he and Garroth fill in each others roles once the other disappears. And I like that; very sad, very sappy, very tragic of them. For Laurance, he spends a good chunk of his time trying to keep Aphmau grounded and motivated. But I’ll save the rest for my Laurmau post yadayada you’ve heard enough from me I think
And then he fucking disappears. And we all know how that goes. Might be cooking up another AU though (something not so tragic), we’ll see.
Anyway, I’m working on stuff. All day, every day. Mostly at midnight, yeah. May have scrolled the laurmau and garrance tags dry here and on AO3. Written a chapter or two. I need more sleep. Maybe a nap.
