okaywill left us beaming in bliss when we first stumbled across the mysterious project nearly a full year ago. He enraptured us with his feathery grooving electronica and fleecy sauntering pop on Pretend, as well as ensnared us with various other fine gems. If you missed out on his dreamy whizzing indie pop on Pretend, now’s your chance to take it in, as okaywill has now re-released it as a taste from his forthcoming EP Falling For You via Majestic Casual. okaywill confronts past relationship ghosts on the airy charming prancer, which at times emanates a synth-laden breeziness that evokes Passion Pit gone Mk.Gee. The South Carolina based singer songwriter and producer builds major momentum towards the release of that debut EP with this song, which gives us a window into his mission to document love, longing, and the emotions of growing up, all through the lens of stripped down nostalgic sounds. On the topic of Pretend, okaywill explains that it’s “an alternate reality for me. It’s what could’ve happened to me but didn’t: My girlfriend had a relationship with me when we were in middle school, but I wanted to be just friends. I didn’t end up getting back with her until 5 years later. The problem was, we saw each other a lot after that and I sometimes ignored her in public because I didn’t want people to think things and I was very young and didn’t want to be in a relationship, or have that status. I treated her like she was pretend until I was mentally prepared to have a relationship again.
