let me tell you why steven universe is literally the most annoying piece of shit in all of media
he’s the only forgiving protagonist that doesn’t make sense to me. I don’t care that he’s a forgiving protagonist--we’ve seen tons of those (don’t even get me started on how ATLA handled the ‘forgiving protagonist’ trope so much better than su, and should honestly be the standard if you wanna make your protagonist interesting, despite them not being the biggest fighter on the block). He’s spent the entire show hearing about all of the fucked up shit the diamond’s have done, he’s experienced it first hand (with the most fucked up example being the cluster, imo), and once it finally comes time to see them face to face and deal with the problem, he just says, “hey, stop. thanks.” and it still doesn’t make sense to me.
I guess the reason I hate Steven so much is because I grew up with protagonist who did the “please stop” thing so much better. Judge me all you want, but when Goku told Krillin to not kill Vegeta, it wasn’t because he thought Vegeta didn’t deserve it, or was a good guy deep down, it was so he could whoop that ass later.
Aang forgiving Zuko? Bro, we had *episodes* of that development, and we actually got to see Zuko develop LOOOONG before that, so the redemption arc and forgiveness Zuko received all made sense.
Steven had none of that going for him. He didn’t actually wait for the Diamonds to seem sorry about it, he didn’t give them a warning that was along the lines of, “I’m gonna let yall off the hook, but if you do this stuff again, I’m bodying all of you.” He just....was so casual about it. To this day, he’s the protagonist that bothers me the most.
Frankenstein’s monster is a close second.
