Okay, so I’m gonna be honest. Robin is a bit of a disaster. He’s a ‘functioning’ alcoholic in denial about his alcoholism who works as a bartender, raising three girls on his own despite not being the father of any of them, and can be one of the most self-destructive people you’ll ever come across. A splash of alcohol in his coffee is the only way he gets his day going and there’s usually a beer or two in the fridge. He’s cut down on his drinking since becoming responsible for the girls but when he gets in a truly self-destructive way it’s usually the alcohol he turns to first. Robin’s got a twin sister named Raven who isn’t really around much. When Raven shows up, that’s when Robin truly spirals into self-destruction.
Robin and Raven grew up on the streets after running away from a rather shitty home. They always had each other but things changed as they grew up. They met Poppy and Kyle as teens and were taken in by Kyle’s mother after she found out they had nowhere to call home. Kyle was Robin’s first ever crush but nothing ever came of it. Kyle and Poppy had been together for as long as either could remember and Kyle was never anything but straight. Robin knew that and never saw any reason to tell Kyle how he felt, not wanting to cause any sort of rift or burden for the other. Raven knew about her brother’s feelings and teased him constantly about it. It blindsided Robin when Raven hooked up with Poppy and Kyle but things were certainly happy for a time. Raven, Poppy, and Kyle got engaged, then married. Robin was the best man at the wedding, with much teasing and ribbing from Raven. Robin started looking to get his own place, wanting to give the newly weds some space to enjoy their marriage without him around. Then Raven got pregnant. Things spiraled pretty quickly after that.
Raven was far from mother material. The moment she gave birth, she ditched the family for a week only to come back and start getting involved in drugs. Raven had always had a temper but the drugs made it worse. While Kyle and Poppy were doing their best to raise the newborn, Robin suddenly found himself the one in charge of trying to get Raven back. When she’d disappear, he was the one to track her down. When she was high off her ass, he was the one taking care of her, making sure she didn’t do anything stupid or wind up overdosing. It was that way for years. Then Poppy got pregnant. Things got even worse with Raven as she took to physically lashing out, Robin being the primary target. For years, that was the cycle the family found themselves in.
Raven had been gone for a month when Poppy and Kyle died in a house fire. Robin had managed to get the girls out but not his friends and it was shattering for him. The only thing that kept him together was the two young girls he suddenly found himself in charge of. He figured with everything that was going on, Raven would surely show up and get her act together for the sake of the girls. It didn’t happen. Instead, Raven vanished entirely, only to show up again years later stating she would fill the role of a mother. To her daughter only. Not Poppy’s. She wanted to split up the girls. Robin, upon realizing it, told her to go screw herself. She beat him half to death then disappeared again. The problem was that she kept in touch with Evalynn, her daughter. At this stage, Evalynn had her own motorcycle and, wanting to get to know her mother, she snuck out one night to visit her mom. On the way, she got into an accident. Robin woke up to a call from the hospital that Evalynn had gotten badly injured. She wound up having to have her arm amputated due to the severity of her injuries. Robin took on any and every job he could to afford her medical bills and get her what she needed, including a state of the art prosthetic. And that meant any and every job, degrading himself for the sake of his niece’s health, safety, and happiness. He even reached out to Raven, to let her know, hoping that she would show up t be there for her daughter. Nothing. It certainly made a hard time even rougher as Evalynn dealt with the loss of a limb and the abandonment of her mom all at the same time while Robin was out there practically killing himself to make ends meet and get what they needed.
As the years went by, Robin bounced around from job to job until he landed a spot as a bartender. Of course, he lost that particular job when he punched a customer who was clearly harassing and abusing a young girl. Lost the job, gained another mouth to feed and someone to be responsible for. Luckily, at the time, the owner of a different bar happened to be inside. They offered him a spot at their bar instead.
There’s a lot more to Robin’s story but that’s most of the key points of it. In terms of species, Robin’s a shifter. His parents were oh so creative with names, naming both their children after what they could shift into. Along with the perks of being able to shift into a robin, Robin has hollow bones and all of the joys that come with that, including being far more susceptible to broken bones. He’s also extremely lightweight, physically, and easy to manhandle though few have attempted that. The girls find it absolutely hilarious when they see anyone manhandling him, provided there’s no ill-intent. And it should be noted that while he’s fiercely protective of the girls, they are equally, if not more so, of him. Not that he’s all that aware of it. The girls are subtle when he’s around and know how to keep any threats towards others away from his ears.
