DIRT documents: [# 18]
As children our bedrooms often become our first opportunity to personalize a space. Everything was being personalized from light switches, doors, ceiling fans and even wallpaper. Things that were gradually transformed into reflections of our own interests and imagination.
As we mature into adulthood many of these personalized spaces disappear. Bedrooms become simpler and more practical. What once served as a canvas for creativity often becomes another ordinary room.
The question is whether these spaces are meant to be forgotten or if they become quiet memories that continue shaping our creativity. Although we leave these bedrooms behind they often represent the first environment where we discovered what we liked and how we wanted to express ourselves.
I see these rooms as creative time capsules that deserve more appreciation. Growing into adulthood should not require the next generation to grow up immediately. They should have the same freedom to personalize their surroundings and develop their own creative identity.
There is something meaningful about allowing young people to create spaces that feel entirely their own. These small choices become some of our first experiences with self expression. They remind us that creativity often begins in the places we call home.
