I’ve tried too many times
I keep trying.
It’s not enough.
it’s never enough. Why.

Down with making phones do everything badly and with AI, spyware, bloatware, telemetry, ads, etc baked in to their OS. Give me dirt cheap specialized devices that just Do The Thing + are customizable and that you can fix yourself. Like I just got my hands on a nook (the crappy e-reader kindle knockoff) that was both fully dead on arrival and malfunctioning once resurrected- I had to crack it open, replace the battery, *and* set up an account bypass because the network functionalities died, but you know what? It just Reads The Files. That's it. It's so old that it doesn't do network, (and I could certainly root it, run android 2.1, make it into a monstrosity, etc ad nauseam,) but as of now it just Reads The Files.
Meanwhile on adobe acrobat, they're giving the same "hi here's an annoying popup for an AI summary nobody wants that covers 1/3 of your document and must be closed manually, also give us your money and your data, we aren't spying on you :)" shtick that every big software ever does. It does *not* Just Read The Files.
Yeah, sure, I could've read the files from my computer, or my phone, or even that mp3 player I made run mass amounts of programs it was not intended to, but that's a) not fun b) will distract me while reading c) if I hadn't tampered they'd be selling my data and d) if I'm going to read a shameless 180k word canon rewrite fanfic I'm going to be pompous and read it on a cheap specialized device.
Go back to cheap specialized devices!! Phones suck!!
Sad, I can't get my functioning Macbook Pro to connect to the internet no more, and i dont have the resources or time to fix that so I may have to sell it. It was a cute computer :(
Me and my family where decluttering the house and found an iPhone 3
Thinking of getting a Speak & Spell because idk why tf not they're silly and i have an addiction to collecting old tech
Btw my collection currently contains: IBM Thinkpad, one stationary phone of unknown origin, 2 Alcatel stationary phones, one Gigaset AS 405 stationary phone, and Lars the Alcatel Telic 1 Minitel Terminal!
I OPENED MY OLD HP LAPTOP AND OH MY GAH WHY DOES IT LOOK LIKE MY ARTSTYLE HELP-
anyway, i tried looking up the picture but couldn't find anything :')
could anyone search the image up themselves it would be really helpful :3
In a dusty plastic bin under my bed lies at least four laptops, six cellphones, and a half-dozen hard drives. I have no idea what’s on any of them. Most of these devices predate the cloud-storage era, and so likely contain solitary copies of photos, texts, and emails, among other confidential files (porn?) that I’d probably be horrified to learn had fallen into the hands of strangers.
Destroy your old devices, yo.
"No matter how we calculate the value of the data gathered, we would never recoup our initial investment of around $600... This raises a fascinating point: Data leakage/extraction is so common that it has driven down the cost of the data itself. I saw several dumps of Social Security numbers on the Darknet for even less than $1 each."
