Locals tell us that the abandoned “old jail” in San Augustine, Texas, hasn’t been used for a jail for about a hundred years. Since then, at one time, it was used as a architect’s office. Now, it looks like it’s mostly used for storing furniture, golf clubs, and some other items.
“So this used to be a jail?”
Part of it, anyway. This is one of the reasons I love walking downtown: they left the backsides of some of the buildings the way they were.
I’m a bit disappointed that you can’t go inside it anymore, but the building it’s attached to had different owners when I was a kid.
