When people sing Princeton University's school song, "Old Nassau," they make a gesture that looks like a salute to some viewers, but as April C. Armstrong *14 explains, it has nothing to do with saluting.

These dueling school song lyrics appeared on the cover of Princeton Althletic News on November 11, 1972. “In praise of Old Nassau, my boys” was replaced with “In praise of Old Nassau, we sing” after the advent of coeducation. We’re not impartial, but we think it’s catchier than “thy sons to thy jubilee throng,” or even the revised Harvard lyric, “we join in thy jubilee throng.”
