Hello I’m 47 today! I’m old and happy!

I am on a long stroll down the memory lane of early 2000s fan sites.

And I just found the old Monthly Gargoyles Fan Art Challenge site.

This thing ran consistently for like 10 years. Every month.

And like… I know we have spaces on social media or archive sites where people make little communities and have art challenges, but the energy is just different.

There was something so cozy about little sites like this. They were teeny tiny communities and even if you were a lurker (I was only ever commenting on art, I can’t draw), you just felt at home.

And not like there wasn’t discourse (back in those days we called it flame wars) or fights over ships in some places (I don’t remember there ever being any on the MGC though, I think they had solid moderation).

But cozy little fan sites and shrines are just not a thing you have today.
