older rats do tend to get balance problems, even if its not hind leg degeneration or neurological. They just get a bit weaker. It might help to adjust any ladders and hammocks so theyre easier to access, and keep food and food low down where they can reach. otherwise just keep an eye on them and make sure theres no sores along their tummy or feet (as their legs getting weaker can cause a lower walk posture, which can lead to sores).
That makes sense. I've just never seen a rat take a tumble like that unless the ground was literally falling out from underneath them
The vet didn't mention anything wrong with him and I don't think he's been dragging his butt or anything, so it probably is just him showing his age
Poor baby, I just get so worried cause I have so many rats now and I'm facing all these problems I've never dealt with before
I hope it is just cause he's a little old. I have to see about making his cage better, because right now there aren't any levels, but now that he's back with his brother I'm going to put the levels back in the big cage. So I'll make sure when I do that they're more senior friendly. Guess my hopes of getting more hammocks and hanging stuff in there is a bust lol
