52 reasons why the old DCU should be part of the 52: An introduction.
Hello everyone. Welcome to my new project "52 reasons why the Old DCU should be part of the 52", it's part blog, part petition, and hopefully you'll laugh and learn a little bit about things which will be of no use to your daily life.
Now I've told you the title of the project you may be wondering ' What in the name of DC does that mean?'. Well to explain that I'd need to give you... ahem....
A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE OLD DCU (aka New Earth)
Cough, ahem that big echo-y voice is a bit rough. So here it is the super short version.
1985-6- The Crisis on Infinite Earths happens. The old Multiverse dies and a new singular universe is born called New Earth.
1986- 2004- A few retcons happen .
2005- A temp multiverse is made then vanishes.
2006- A new multiverse comprised of 52 universes (well 54 if you want to get technical) is made for realz. It's also made up of universes that are surprisingly similar to the old multiverse. Who woulda thunk it?
2008- The Milestone Universe merges with New Earth.
2011- Flashpoint happens, New Earth merges with Earth-13 (Vertigo) and Earth-50 (Wildstorm) and reboots to make the DCnU.

So that's how it went, but for 26 years we were given fantastic stories, good stories, and some real stinkers. It was home though, and to have it just disappear from the face of the earth doesn't seem right and doesn't seem like what the original multiverse creators would have wanted. Now I'm sure your going "Now what's this ponce on about?" Well here we go again with...
HOW THE ORIGINAL MULTIVERSE WAS MADE!
1961: A conference room with a big wooden table surrounded by the execs.
Exec 1: "So why are we here?"
Exec 2: "Well remember how we started having new characters taking on the mantles of old Golden Age characters?"
Exec 1: "Not really..."
Exec 3: "Well, for the current Flash we had Barry Allen reading comic books about Jay Garrick the old Flash and that inspired him when he received his powers he took up the title."
Exec 1: "Thanks Fanboy, so what's the problem?"
Exec 4: "The fans want the old characters back."
Exec 1: "So, lets bring them back."
Exec 5: " We could but they'd be old and there's another problem. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Green Arrow were all members.
Exec 1: "Ok, ideas people."
Exec 2: "Well, how about this, we create parallel worlds. The current continuity could be on... let's call it Earth One, the JSA and all the Golden Age characters can be on Earth Two.
Exec 3: "Hey yeah! And we can have Earth Three be filled with evil versions of the heroes."
Exec 1: "Fantastic! Give me more!"
Exec 4: "Well we could dump the old Charleton and Fawcett characters on Earth Four & Five.
Exec 1: "Alright, Put them to work! What else?"
Exec 5: "We could have an Earth X, where the Nazis win WWII."
Exec 1: "Hmm that's different, yeah that could work."
Exec 6: "Earth C- could have the heroes be animals!"
Exec 1: "Why haven't I fired you? Anyway anything else?"
Exec 2: Well going back to Earth Two, since we have a spare Batman and Superman maybe we could have them get married grow old maybe even get replace by their sidekicks. Since we'll still have the main versions in Earth One we can really go wild.
Exec 1: That's an amazing idea.
Isn't it though, New Earth has always skirted this line. Pushing for real changed but due to the fact there was only one universe and they couldn't afford to give up their most valuable characters. Everything is changed now.
