Mia couldn’t remember when or how she’d gotten wrapped in a chat with him, but a few drinks in and feeling alive, she knew where the conversation was headed before she’d even changed the topic to what had been on her mind, stewing away for weeks, months even, already. She glanced over her shoulder and eyed Atlas with curious eyes, twiddling her thumbs before she turned on her bar stool to face him properly. “Hypothetically speaking,” she began. No sentence that started like that was ever hypothetical. “If someone had family, like a long-lost half-sibling, that they knew about but said half-sibling had no clue they even existed… and there’s also a heart-breaking story of how that half-sibling was left behind by their mother… but they both lived in the same place and could get to know each other, would you say that’s worth exploring?” Mia decidedly left out the asking for a friend part. “Or is that just a lot of trouble waiting to happen?”
