Up beyond the Oldcourt there is a really cool boathouse. Lots of glass and a cool jetty. This is the final turn before the last stretch up toward Skibbereen. The river starts to get narrow at this point and most of the wind was being blocked out by the surrounding topography so progress was slowed to a snail’s pace. The roads on either side of the river here also meant there was the constant groan of traffic. I had a choice at this stage whether to go on and row up to Skibbereen town or turn back to spend the night somewhere more peaceful. A Saturday night in Skibb would have been anything but! I choose to loop around the last islands on the tidal part of the river, and run back the way I had come.
