English is present in my life today in a moderate way, it is present in movies and in music basically. But, when I was young, it seemed to be more present, since in my teenage years my country suffered the diplomatic opening and we were flooded by American culture and other people who also used English . Our country was very behind in all kinds of information coming from other countries. Because there was a dictatorship in Brazil and all information, music or other things was supervised.
I notice a lot of the difficulty in relation to the songs, but understanding the message. The English offered in Brazilian schools is very bad, in my opinion, because there is a lack of incentives and teaching is discontinued, causing discouragement and abandonment by students.
This is very bad for Brazil, considering that we are among the 10 largest economies in the world and learning english is fundamental for commercial and diplomatic relations.
Even though, I have simple goals compared to many of my colleagues, I already notice positive impacts when Ia come across a report in English and I try to translate it to understand and learn. My family is also encouraging me by proposing conversations in a second language.
I intend to continue studying English and improve every day. It has been a great journey in the search for knowledge. I go at my own pace, but a go. Getting to know the language, people, and making friends.
Thank you
