So this is my second attempt to write this blog post after my idiotic self somehow managed to completely delete the first one (nobody is as mad at me as I am) however I will persevere and try to produce a post on par with what I originally wrote.
Having decided to narrow my research into artists who incorporate branding and logos into their work I found myself reading an interview with Oli Epp. I’ve left a link to the interview that inspired me to do this post in the first place. The thing I’ve began to notice is that a lot of the artists I’ve researched is I really enjoy their interviews. They seem so genuine and down to earth and unlike the interviews I read in magazines they are in no way twisted or made to portray the artist in a certain light which is something I enjoy. Anyway here’s the link to the interview: https://www.yngspc.com/artists/2018/05/oli-epp/
What inspiration I’ve taken away from Oli Epp is that his art gives meaning not to the brand but to the people who work for the brand and in some cases the people who do the shit job because they have to deal with people like us. It’s these everyday moments that I think not only as consumers but as humans we forget. We forget that the person serving us behind the McDonald’s counter also has a story and that serving chicken nuggets and french fries is not their entire life. I think that as consumers it can be hard to not get wrapped up in selfishness and that we can sometimes treat people who are only providing a service with a little less respect or courtesy and spend a bit more time being human and kind to each other.
Anyway after my rant about how people choose to treat each other in day to day life I would quite like to experiment with Oli’s work and perhaps print them onto multiple services. I’d quite like to create my own people maybe from the fashion retail industry and print them onto random surfaces such as the brands bag or a fashion tag, even an item of clothing from that brand. I think the biggest thing I’ve taken away from Oli’s work and the thing that has inspired me the most is to just have fun with it and fingers crossed my attempt will make someone feel how I feel about his work.
