The Winner's View
The4majors.com was lucky enough to catch up with the victor of the inaugural SGS Open, golfing superstar Elliott Russell. 'The Carshalton Kid' told us just how he did it...
I was immediately relaxed for our round of golf after seeing the attire that Georgy K was sporting! I believe it's essential to be calm and 'loosey goosey' before teeing off.
I'd like to thank my dad for teaching me to play from a young age and Tiger for teaching me how to swing! My favourite shot (other than all of mine) was OJ's putt on the 2nd and I will hopefully be working closely with him on my putting as this is my weakest trait. Advice I can offer is to hit the range often and practise on developing a consistent swing, it's all in the swing. I look forward to our next competition and hopefully a bigger challenge will await!
Wise words indeed from from Russell and congratulations for winning what many are calling 'The World's Toughest Golf Tournament', the SGS Open.
Elliott Russell Reigns Supreme At The Inaugural SGS Open
After an astounding 18 holes at the famous Oaks Park Golf Course, bookies' favourite Elliott Russell was announced as the first ever winner of the SGS Open. Russell's consistent round featured an unbelievable tee-shot on the 15th which finished just a few feet from the pin. Other notable moments from the annual event included Oliver Jay's two miraculous long range putts, whilst Timothy Mellett won the Longest Drive Competition and Michael Broughton won the 'Closest To The Pin' Challenge.
