Elyse is at work. She's bored. She should be figuring things out, and maybe, just maybe, that's part of what she is doing, scrolling through social media, looking at pictures from May, from August. From September and October and November - thinking about the lag there, the slump in photos of them from between November and January. Thinks about how they pick up again in February - about how much more... close they seemed. And then, just like that, a few weeks later and it all drops off again.
Sitting there on Elyse's couch, she can't help a laugh at the line under an absolutely terrible picture of herself. "Look at this fucking thing."
She sees her own reply "Why THIS picture?"
It almost makes her laugh at the same time that it makes her eyes sting. She flips backwards then. Sees another random shot, one of dozens of herself shoving food in her mouth - something that once upon a time she'd have never let anybody snap a picture of, especially given why her appetite had spiked so recently - but something Aria had done a lot to make her feel less self conscious about, back when... when they were together. Just a picture of her eating breakfast in their apartment the day they'd moved in, just a week before...
She scrolls away, for her own good, wiping tears off of her face. There's a reply on it that makes her shake her head, but then when she scrolls back down, she sees the same name again. "Suggested For You!" So she clicks it. Sees... photos - from just a couple days ago. Infamy. Aria... Olivia.
I hooked up with somebody. At Infamy.
It's stomach churning, how quickly she goes from sad, so so quickly, to something redder, like her brain trips on something, smashes its face into a pile of miasmic, furious shit.
She feels how white knuckle she is, scrolling through pictures. The fucking smile is what eats at her the most. The smile, the way she's so fucking pretty. And then it's the thoughts. That she'd touched her. That she'd gotten to be happy with her, even for a second, while she gets to stew here in misery. Something scratches at the back of her brain, pulling on old barbed threads. She thumbs through old texts....
