The Past Finds A Way

Olivia has two important people in her life at the moment. Her daughter and her daughter’s father. Granted, the two are just friends now after long years of co-parenting (or well, Liv’s idea of parenting). We will call him Jack, for now. Their daughter is now 24 years old, so an adult. They don’t co-parent anymore but they are cordial to one another. Liv is very work-oriented. It always came first and that hindered her relationship with her daughter when Liv finally returned back to Magnolia after abandoning both of them when her daughter was an infant.

Since Liv and Jack never married, Jack + daughter’s surname is up to whomever takes them up (or whichever is taken first).

Liv and Daughter’s relationship isn’t the greatest. It was very strained to start with when Liv returned back to Magnolia around the time that Daughter was a pre-teen. Liv tried her best but Liv is Liv. It got a little easier as the years went by but now that Daughter is an adult, things can still be awkward and tense. Probably not out of  the ordinary for Daughter to still bring up that Liv was a bad mother who abandoned her. It’s feelings that obviously still need to be worked through since Liv likely swept a lot of it under the rug to pretend it was all fine. Liv is still very much work-obsessed which continues to add to the strain of their relationship.  A lot is left up to the player on things like personality and occupation. I imagine that she has some traits that are similar to her mother and that adds tension as well.

I refer to him as Jack just to make it easier. Jack and Liv were high school sweethearts. They were your typical teenagers in love, talking about the future without any real idea of what that actually meant. It was a rude awakening when Liv ended up pregnant and even more startling when Liv left their infant daughter with Jack and then ran. When she returned twelve years later, it was… unstable at best. Whether he still had feelings for her or not at that point, is entirely up to the player - they could have even tried to rekindle what they had at that point but it will not end well. And they’ll end up co-parenting the best they can after it doesn’t work out. In present time, again, up to you on if he still holds a torch but it won’t be reciprocated, not fully at least, and it won’t go anywhere (she has something else planned, in the romantic department). But it still adds to that fun (read: awkward) tension. Should you choose to go that route. I would love to see them, at least, be good friends now - considering everything they’ve been through. Someone she can go to on occasion (when she’s not retreating to isolation when she’s stressed). And someone to call on her shit.
