How many books do you read at a time?😨 🔹YA – young adults 🔹PAPERBACK – a book with a cover made of thick paper As far as I remember, I have always read several books at once. Why? Because at one moment you FEEL LIKE reading a detective story, then you are into some non-fiction book, or you long for relaxing and you need a hilarious CHICK-LIT. Usually, I had a book or two on self-growth or psychology, a classic one and some light reading (YA, chick-lit). Sometimes I was reading up to 5 books at once. Now with the Internet it’s different, I don’t read as much as I used to…😔 What is more, now not only do I pick various genres but various languages too. Last week my, sort of, vacations started, so I hope I’ll have more time to read. (Do you buy it?😜) My to-read list for now: 🙆Catalan – “Memòries d’Idhun” by Laura Gallego García – Marc, one of my students gave it to me. I started it but never had time to finish (I ended up buying one). Fantasy teens book. The only paperback in this list. 🙆French – “Toutes ces choses qu’on ne s’est pas dites” by Marc Levy (do you know this author? He’s French. I’ve read several his books. Love them). 🙆English – “30-day plan productivity” by Damon Zahariades. I’m reading it at my BOOK CHALLENGE. Non-fiction book. And I’ve already chosen the book for the NEXT Book Challenge👏👏👏 which STARTS on the 1st of July. The book was suggested by @oh_i_mama. I hope you’ll find it interesting. It’s about a VERY VERY famous person. I actually read it several years ago. Very engaging!!! 💦At University we had to read plenty of books by American and British authors. One “must-read” was THE FORSYTE SAGA (first published 1922) by John Galsworthy. I found it pretty gloomy. We had to read only the first book, there are 5 of them. 💦It got the Nobel Prize. Yet, I regarded it as a DOORSTOP, I didn’t enjoy reading it at all😩 When I finished that first book, I gave a sigh of relief. Was I curious about the other books of the saga? Not at all! I was determined to never go back to this Forsyte family. 💦After a while, I saw a TV show about smart kids and one 9-year-old girl told that she read the ENTIRE FORSYTE SAGA. Whaaaaat????😨 💦I was shocked. A 9-year-old finished it and me not? I thought that I could give it the second CHANCE. I wasn’t going to read the first book once again, but I decided to try the second one. 💦When I had a chance I went for the second book. I READ it. I loved it. I read the 3rd. And the 4th. And the 5th. ❤I savoured the storyline. ❤I savoured Galsworthy’s style. ❤I loved his characters’ complexity. ❤I was fascinated by the depth of the thoughts and ideas. 💦Why didn’t I enjoy the book the first time? I suppose because I was FORCED to do this, you know? But I’m thankful to our lecturer who included this book in our list. P.S. Once I started to read one legendary Russian book. It was quite a thick one – more than 600 pages. I was studying at school. My Mom recommended it (check my previous post of the series “5 book stories”. As far as I remember, I wasn’t looking forward to reading this one either). ⠀ ⠀ Learn these words before you move on: ⠀ 🔹ENTHRALLING – so interesting that it attracts all your attention. ⠀ 🔹LOOSELY (BASED) – not exactly. ⠀ 🔹NOT HAVE A CLUE – to know nothing about sth. ⠀ ⠀ The adventure book traces the story of one man’s life from his childhood until his adulthood. ⠀ 🔥ENTHRALLING! REALLY!🔥 ⠀ By accident, at the SAME time when I started to read the book, its TV adaptation was on. It was a miniseries based on the book. ⠀ Not LOOSELY based, it had almost every dialogue from the book (frankly speaking, I love such adaptations). ⠀ So, I was reading the book and watching a series at the same time. I tried to read ahead of the movie, but, of course I had no CLUE how many chapters they would include in the next episode. ⠀ Thus, sometimes I got to know from the movie further details. ⠀ It was a great experience.💫 ⠀ But one CURIOUS thing happened. ⠀ The protagonist of the book was short, and it was mentioned in the book several times on different occasions. ⠀ While the actor in the movie was pretty tall. Ooops))) ⠀ In the book there is a line of one elderly woman who tells the main character (who is a young man at that time, not a boy): “You are so short, surely, you didn’t use to eat porridge” (I don’t remember exact words, sorry). ⠀ And in the movie, logically, the woman says: “You are so tall, surely, you USED to eat porridge”.😀 ⠀ ⠀ This is how they found a way out of this situation)))) ⠀ ⠀ To conclude, I ❤ both: the book and the movie. Without my Mom (my family came to see me every day, of course). I think there were other kids, but I TOOK TO a 7-year-old boy. I don’t think I HAD A CRUSH💓 ON him))) but we played together all days. ⠀ ⠀ 👫 We really had a hard time to find an interesting activity for both. What I liked doing: I drew princesses in different dresses and made him guess the kind of each dress)))))) What a torture for a poor guy😦! ⠀ ⠀ Finally, he decided to start teaching me to read. We didn’t have any children’s books there (why not???) and we read …. drum roll … newspapers😲! Yes, newspapers with articles about politics, economics, business. Such a YAWN. I have no idea why I didn’t start to hate reading after this first experience, perhaps, that boy was CUT OUT FOR teaching. And he really TAUGHT me to read within a couple of days🎊🎊🎊! ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ HOW MY FAMILY FOUND OUT I could read ⠀ My hero remained unknown, nobody knew I could read... ⠀ Once we went for a walk with my uncle and saw a pharmacy (we were in a big city and I had no idea it was a pharmacy). I knew that my mom needed something from the pharmacy. ⠀ ⠀ 👱I said: Let’s enter this pharmacy. ⠀ 👨My uncle: How do you know it’s a pharmacy? ⠀ 👱I said: BECAUSE it says (reading) PHAR-MA-CY. ⠀ This is how my family realised I could read))) ⠀ ⠀ 👀How did you learn to read? ⠀ 👀Who taught you?
