I needed to see, and I saw, but now what's left?
Been a while...
... and it’ll be a while longer!
Sorry for the long absence here, folks. Since we haven’t had news to share, we haven’t posted anything. Of course, in this day and age, not having news can itself be news, I s’pose.
Anyway, we didn’t have a 2020 OlyComicsFest, or a 2021 OlyComicsFest, and we won’t be having a 2022 OlyComicsFest.
We are very much hoping that Covid numbers and variants and what not allow us to feel safe in having a 2023 OlyComicsFest. So cross your fingers along with us and we’ll probably post next some time late this year or early next year with an update. Thanks much, stay healthy and safe!
These Historic Photos of Olympia from the 1910s are Beyond Fascinating
Busy weekend capturing this mural creation - and this formerly homeless woman and her three children’s rise to victory the last few years. . . *** #olympiawa #wgu #muralpainting #weirdocult #weekendfun #dronework #sideproject #productionlife🎥 @johnsharify (at Olympia, Washington) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNx389Ggjhw/?igshid=ldhs7dw7zhid
Scenes from Olympia, Washington, where I lived for a brief period of time
September 7, 2020
30 years ago, I left a small town in upstate NY, and headed west for the first time. I landed in Olympia, Washington. I was only here for two months, but it left impressions on me that I feel more than years spent in other places.
These places are impacted by the Covid-19 crisis. Maybe in another year, they'll look as they did 30 years ago, or maybe they'll be gone.
A--The Old Olympia Brewery.
B--Bronze Plaque on the doorway of the Angelus Hotel, where I lived, drank cognac, killed roaches and worked hard on the inferred lifestyle of an alcoholic poet. Whenever you walked through the front door of this place, you heard incessant coughing. I kept a log of the number of roaches I killed, but I lost that somewhere along the way.
C--Ben Moore's Cafe. It doesn't look like much, but this was actually a decent restaurant. I worked here, until I got canned. The night that I was fired, every bartender in Olympia bought me a drink. Apparently being fired from Ben Moore's was a club many of the other bartenders in Olympia belonged to. Beyond getting canned, I remember seeing geoduck for the first time. Freaky food.
D--"The Reef" This may very well have been for me, the very vortex of alcoholism. I have memories of walking into this place and no memories of me ever leaving: I would just wake up at home or somewhere else. The bright restaurant in the front was separated from the darkened bar by a solid oaken door. Inside, was the epitome of lounges. the bartender's name was Yvonne. She was beautiful and powerful, with brown curly hair, big hair. After the first time I went there, whenever I walked into The Reef, and opened the door I expected Yvonne to point me back towards the door I just walked through, and tell me to "get out," but every single time, she would put on a big smile, and shout "hey!" and give me a thumbs up. I have no idea how I behaved in this place, but apparently I never really crossed any lines that I could have, given my blacked-out state. Without getting into it, I quit drinking 13 months later and I haven't been back. I never really wrote all that much poetry either.
E--Percival Landing. I saw my first salmon run. I had no idea
F--Budd Inlet, the southern end of Puget Sound.
G--The distant Olympic Mountains
H--The State Capitol. Instead of running for Governor of the state of Washington, I left Olympia, shortly after Halloween.
I hitchhiked to Taos, New Mexico, and then after another month, I hitchhiked back to NY. I came back to the West the next year and I've been here ever since.
I’m excited too. Olympia is one of my favorites. #Repost @olycomicsfest ・・・ We are excited to have @fareldal joining us a Guest Of Honor at this year’s #OlympiaComicsFestival on June 2nd! #OlyComicsFest #OlympiaWA #FarelDalrymple (at Olympia, Washington)
FOR THE GLORY OF MANKIND. NieR/Drakengard series is one of my very most favorite video game(s) of all time. It’s apart of my soul now. @yokotaro make one of the most AMAZING stories. I’m so honored to have a YorHA unit tattoo, so much that I’m in tears. I can’t tell you how happy I am with this tattoo, with my artists own touch!
