thinking of how much i love and prefer season 5 she ra’s form and there’s a reason for that: it’s more reminiscent of adora herself. ofc i do love she ra’s form throughout season 1-4 bc it’s iconic… but this she ra form is from the power of love and friendship and courage. in season 1-4, adora felt detached from she ra and relied on she ra because she felt like SHE was not good enough and that nobody would want adora for adora. i think when it comes to this she ra form, she is still trying to find herself and she’s struggling because she feels she ra comes from the sword and she needs the sword but she ra comes from within. she’s not she ra because of the sword, she’s she ra because she just is her. she couldn’t find a sense of identity within the horde bc it was all what do they want? what am i supposed to do? she never thought about what she wanted. her first she ra form shows the struggle of identity i feel.

but when it comes to her in season 5, it comes from a moment of stubbornness due to her not wanting to give up because she LOVES her friends. she is just so full of love. her boots resemble glimmer, the heart on her chest is for bow, and her head piece represents catra’s. (considering there’s a moment where she takes it off and eventually loses it, it’s like catra gave her the head piece. she has her hair poof and her ponytail. (necessity btw) she’s more strong than ever.

and i think this is why catra blushed when she saw this form because it was more reminiscent of adora. catra didn’t like she ra at all. she wanted adora, not she ra. she ra was almost like a reminder that adora left her and is just so much more better than her than before. but catra warms up to she ra because she can SEE adora in her. AND JUST TO MENTION, this she ra saved catra and brought her back to life with just the power of love.

i’m sure this has been pointed out before but i’m just thinking abt it…. this is probably worded rlly weird

funny that catra told adora “it was fun distracting you though” and then in s4 adora copied her by saying the same thing (wasn’t even catra tho😭) the way she is so angry abt it she even copies her “hey adora” thing 😭😭

sangwoo canonically hates himself and is insecure (very obvi) among other things. i just find it sad how you can be so indulged and ruthless in your success that you realize that you …. don’t even really like yourself despite your accomplishments. a lot of people would like to be you! and you can’t really change that since you can’t escape yourself. you’ll never be able to develop a personality you would like bc it’s too late and you’re just stuck with yourself. and especially being JEALOUS of your childhood best friend!!! it makes me wonder if sangwoo mourns the man he could’ve been. any1 else ever think abt this late at night cause i do

anyone else feel like we know so much abt sangwoo yet… so little? he has a lot of depth within him, but i’m more talking about his identity. i feel like i barely know anything about him. i don’t know what he is like out of competitiveness. and a simple reason for that could be… he’s only in one season of a show where the majority takes place IN the facility or… he just never developed an identity other than “the smart guy who went to SNU” like he’s an interesting character but i don’t see him being an interesting person if he were real…does that make sense…? like. it’s sort of like he let himself be boring…

this was probably the most genuine he’s ever been⬇️ 🥲🥲🥲🥲

just going into it deeper, he’s the way he is because of the capitalistic system set in place. capitalism teaches you that it’s YOUR decision of where you end up financially. if you’re poor, it’s your fault. if you’re wealthy, you worked for it and you deserve it. THOUGH— that is far from the case. sangwoo being poor as a child is not his fault and i imagine him using that against himself… when it’s the system’s fault. he can also benefit from the system in a way but also, it degrades him and his identity that is fully surrounded by his productivity and success. that’s why he has no TRUE identity that is not surrounded by his success. it’s what he thought benefited him. but it killed him in a way but NOT literally, it killed his morals. his suicide went against the system for the first time. he let go of how competitive the system is. the system attempted to take his care away for other people. he went against that for once, letting himself be real and vulnerable and choosing death.

success neither poverty defined his worth as a human being in this world, but he was never taught that.

short rant abt sangwoo + his mommy

i’d like to think that sangwoo had a close relationship with his mother, but not one that developed any true form of trust. not that she is a bad mother ‘cause it’s not surprising that a korean mother would expect so much from her child, but it can be a result of generational trauma and/or just… korean culture and what is expected from gifted children. what child who has all of the pressures put upon them, especially by their own parent, is mentally well? you get scared of any sort of failure because success is your only identity. sangwoo doesn’t have another identity because he was never able to develop another one and was pushed to be nothing other than the face of success. perfectionism just becomes a fear of failure.

they were close in a way that there was no conflict, because sangwoo never told her anything about his problems and conformed to what she wanted to make her happy, which is probably why he graduated top of his class to make her proud, his only sense of self worth coming from the approval of his mother which helps his own confidence, but it made him egotistical and arrogant.

but despite the closeness, sangwoo is terrified of disappointing her and even would rather die than let her suffer from his actions. love is there, sure, undoubtedly, but it’s such a surface level relationship that they probably dont have a deep connection like other children do with their mothers, where you can tell your mother almost anything, even the worst, and she will still be there to support you because she loves you so much. she does love sangwoo, A LOT, but there is no shaming sangwoo for not telling her.

sangwoos high sense of competitiveness and ruthlessness might’ve stemmed from the way his mother raised him. developing mental illnesses from a young age because of his insecurity and sense of superiority AND inferiority. never being able to screw up because your mother wouldn’t be happy about it. perpetuating certain behaviors into his mind because success is everything. success defines sangwoo. success defines THEM. OTHERS wouldn’t be happy about it either, everyone would look down upon you, but hurting your mother is the worst of all.

this being the ONLY picture of them together, being CLOSE with sangwoo holding her makes me disturbed and happy at the same time. this is the only way that people will see sangwoo, and it’s the only sangwoo that people want to see; fake and conformed to high standards. and maybe she wants to only see it too. it would be sad if this would be the only picture of them together. or maybe she wants to protect her reputation, not wanting to tell anyone about who her son really is. not that she knows… but who wouldn’t want to hide it all? who wouldn’t want to hide a son like sangwoo? he wants to, too.

this is a kind of relationship in which things need to be overcome and discussed. they would need to admit their wrongdoings and flaws, but of course, they want to be perfect for themselves and others. conflict must be avoided to them. so it’s silent. no words said other than “don’t worry.” when sangwoo simply says, “eomma.” and nothing else after that, it shows how much needs to be said. even deeper than what he should say, too.

like i said, she’s NOT a bad mother and neither is responsible for HIS actions, (sangwoo is objectively a worse son.) just one who is flawed and isn’t completely aware of it because sangwoo just presented himself to be what she wanted him to be. sangwoo has mommy issues (?)lowkey😬😬😬

sangwoo is the haesoo character that took the trademark when it comes to glasses so it’s funny when he has a role where he wears glasses and ppl just mention sangwoo 😭

reminder when gihun comes back from the games, sangwoos mom doesn’t necessarily ask gihun if he’s seen sangwoo, she says “you haven’t heard from sangwoo-ya recently… have you?” it’s almost like there’s a part of her that hopes for gihun to let her see sangwoo but another part of her accepts that sangwoo is gone and that she’s never gonna see him again 🥲
