‘ i’ll be shining just for you. ’ violet from edmund!
⍋ there was a ball that night, something violet didn't entirely feel up for. what she wished for instead was a night alone with her husband, dancing the night away somewhere private. somewhere just for them. well, not just the two of them. she was with child, their first, and she was just barely still able to hide her bump under carefully chosen petticoats and hoop skirts. when they were alone in their bed chambers at night and she wore only a thin nightgown it was more obvious. she didn't have to hide from her husband, and she didn't want to. edmund was everything to her, her north star. his statement rang true in more ways than he knew.
"i know you will," she replied, letting one of her curls fall loose as she felt his front press up against her back. his words were soothing, whispered in her ear like a warm caress on her skin. she hadn't spoken any of her anxieties out loud, but he knew. because he knew her better than she knew herself. and she liked to think she knew him the same. violet tilted her head up and brushed her lips along the underside of edmund's jaw, gliding his hand over her stomach with her own. "you are the brightest star in every room, my love. every eye will be on you and i cannot blame them, but you cannot blame a girl for getting a little jealous when every maiden in the ballroom requests a dance with the father of her child," she teased, loving the way the words felt as her tongue curled around them. she didn't speak on the child out loud unless they were in the privacy of their home. it was their little secret as long as they wanted it to be. and violet liked having something that was just theirs.
