Another complication (with tightlacing) in the breast is mammary abscess,the inflammation of the connective tissue in the breast. Often, this condition causes pus to be discharged into the milk.
According to an article published in 1884 in The Science and Art of Surgery Journal byJohn Erichsen, the only way to correct this ailment in the 19th century was to insert a drainage tube into the breast to drain all the pus.
