@ayustar replied to your post “Idk why I thought there could be an ontario ginkgo...”:
They have some at my local nursery (a bonsai ginkgo even!) and I want one so baaaaaad. I gotta see if I have some pictures of the bonsai.
Luckyyy. In my case I have 3 Ginkgo trees already (one former seedling, one possible reverted NOID, and Princeton Sentry) but been after a female tree for ages now.
I did have a female cultivar I got from a Guelph Arboretum sale a while back but it got wrecked accidentally by my dad which then put the nail in the coffin for it to die by the end of the season.
At this point I'm either gonna try to find a local female tree (unlikely since most ginkgos in the local towns are all young male cultivars, the closest I know of is in London which is WAY too far away now that I live on the farm again) to get seeds from yearly, or just straight up take a crack at chip budding and chip bud a distant female ginkgo onto one of my current trees to make it that it gets a female branch (which thinking about it may be less.... mess-destructive than an entire female tree on the farm).
But it's tricky cause female ginkgos are such unicorns around here. For good reason but still.
