au: a flight of feathers
welcome aboard! @omjio ( from reblogging this—thank you! )
The first thing that Mi and Jiho were told upon starting the job: don’t get attached to the beasts. Easy task, Mi had thought. They’d only be seeing the creatures for an hour at a time, a day at most. But perhaps she’d underestimated her capacity for attachment. Case in point: the puffskeins and young hippogriff they’re currently transporting. Mi careens closer to her long-time friend, the charmed wooden crate containing some of their rowdy puffskeins hanging from her broomstick handle, weighing down with an uneven load she’s now gotten used to.
"Hey," she whispers. The rush of air up where they are is loud enough but she's wary. "We've been flying all night... do you think we should try to get them to stop or something? Chilli looks restless... and the sun should be coming up soon.” Chilli, their unofficially named hippogriff does indeed look tired, swaying from side to side in flight below them. He’s surrounded by a few other members of their team, all on broomsticks as well. In the distance, there’s an orange glow coming over the hills that Mi eyes suspiciously: the group might be in a rush, but illegal transportation of magical creatures doesn’t work as well when all’s lit up. She sighs. How did the two of them get into this mess anyway?---it sure wasn’t this much of a mess when they’d started, or perhaps that had just been the adrenaline-loving careless side of her young and naive mind.
