A chill wind blows in, one that strips the last embers of orange and red from the trees. Left in the winds wake are the gnarled branches of bare deciduous trees, alongside the dark, stalwart towers of conifers. These dark woods lie between mountains, shrouded by fog, and trapped in eternal dusk, in a place known as:
I've had the idea to try create some shlocky, castlevania-inspired poster for Remire Valley for a fair while, and it was so fun to make!
Pretty much everything around the poster is based upon the third and final session of the mini-campaign, so only the final 3 party members made it. I couldn't remember a whole lot about specific design traits (they were mini-campaign characters after all), but went for "Green Evil Fucking Wizard" for Bolfar, general priestly attire for Damien, and then I straight up gave the Simon Belmont getup to the Tiefling barbarian who I have tragically forgotten the name of Zachary :)
What I surprisingly ended up having the most fun with was the starkly highlighted portraits of various characters that showed up in Remire Keep. If anything I think this style was inspired by the Cowboy Bebop intro style, but again aimed for that shlocky movie poster feel.
From top to bottom we have: Rom Bopulus, Chef (also affectionately known as Shit), Lady Sher (who imo turned out as like one of the cutest characters I've ever drawn for some reason?), Valentine (wait a minute Matt Mercer what are you doing here), The Conductor, and finally Shrike (who looks fucking awesome, probably my favourite of the portraits).
This takes the record for the most layers I've ever used (I think it ended up at like, 18 or something stupid?) and they are horribly organised so I don't have any meaningful alternatives to share.
Anyways, very pleased with how this turned out, Remire Valley will always be a special little thing to me.
