I found this Reddit post and was devastated to learn that it was archived so I’m making my own Tumblr version
(I’ve thought a lot more about Neo Squad/Original Series Devlin than Omniteam/Omniverse Devlin, so one set of headcanons is more detailed than the other.)
OT/OV:
- This Devlin has the spark, not the Osmosian gene. His hero name is either Mr. Miracle or Sir Starlight, (I haven’t decided which yet) and “arch-nemesis” is Curseplacer, the son of Charmcaster. (Curse miiiiiiight secretly have a crush on him though.)
- He and Lyn get along pretty well and he calls her “Nugget” as a nickname. (I imagine he was actually watching her with Zed during the events of Era of an Era, as he was grounded and she was too young to go.)
- He’s had a few relationships, but they’ve never gotten very far. (Sorry Devlin, not everyone has an instant spark romance like your parents did!)
- He doesn’t actually strike me as a conventional “bad boy” (he’d honestly be more on the studious side like his mom) but does have the tendency to be cocky and irresponsible (so a bit similar to his uncle when he was his age) which causes trouble between him and his parents and led to him getting grounded (rather than it being a single event, it was more a repeated pattern of him shirking his responsibilities to show off as a superhero).
- Since he’s 15, Kevin used to give him driving lessons (having an indestructible car helps a lot with “your son driving for the first time” anxiety, especially since Devlin was a lot better on working on cars than he was driving them). However, it’s been a lot harder now with Kevin’s new job. Gwendolyn tries to take him driving in Kevin’s stead but… it’s not quite the same.
- Speaking of Kevin, I imagine he video calls his son (and wife!) any chance he gets. (Gwendolyn and Devlin also send him frequent gifts since the Null Void isn’t exactly known for having a lot of resources.)
- When Devlin was still learning how to use magic, he’d accidentally blow up stuff. Neither Gwendolyn nor Kevin minded the destruction as they were used to far worse (“It’s a great opportunity to call Rook and everything-proof our house!” “Is that really practical? Devlin’s skills will improve eventually and I thought the ‘everything-proofing’ process was expensive.” “And? We get attacked way too many times for everything-proofing to not be practical.” “When you put it that way…”). As someone who takes a lot of pride in his current abilities, Devlin fiercely denies this explosive past (hehe) anytime it’s mentioned.
- He feels like the kind of kid to play with fashion dolls rather than action figures, but use those dolls in pretty much the exact same way action figures are most often used. His parents have had to repair many a doll for a sobbing little Devlin bc Princess Dazzlebright’s (and her sparkly peers’) fragile limbs couldn’t handle being thrown around in epic toy fights with other kids.
NS/OS:
- Devlin built his own hoverboard, and is good at engineering/hovercraft mechanics. Whenever Kenny gets a new hoverboard (as I imagine he’s the type to prefer the newer tech) he gives Devlin the old one to tinker around with. Similarly, Devlin built his own ship from various different parts he’s accumulated. It’s called the Magenta Comet, but it’s actually more dark purple than magenta. This is the ship that the Neo Squad typically use on their space missions.
- He’s got a bit of a hoarding problem. Whether it’s scrap metal, snack foods, or even things that are technically considered garbage (used tickets, opened packaging, clothes torn past the point of wearability, etc) he tends to hold onto stuff, and often can’t bring himself rid of anything.
- That said, while he frequently collects “trash” and second-hand items, he often struggles to accept newer/nicer things, and rarely uses them. (Ex: his bed is perfectly made because he never uses it, preferring to sleep in a pile of assorted fabric-based materials).
- He met this timeline’s version of Argit (who’s still an active criminal rather than president of Earth) even before he met Kevin (~4-5 vs ~7-8). The two have a playful yet tense dynamic due to often trying to pull one over another. Devlin cares about Argit, but also knows he won’t hesitate to use that against Devlin, so he tries to stay aloof.
- Adapting the pop-up trivia about Devlin being born on a Saturn colony, he was actually born on one of its moons (Titan) rather than Saturn itself. (I may have several other pieces of lore tied to this, but that’s a post for another day.) Additionally, he had never actually been on Earth until the events of Ken 10.
- Because he spent a huge chunk of his life in colder planets and moons, he’s got a high tolerance to cold temperatures even when in human form.
- He eventually learns how to control the alien DNA in his body well enough to configure it in ways other than the original Kevin 11 mutation. Not only can he transform a specific limb while not transforming the rest of his body, but he also has a different preferred chimera form (one that’s a lot more lanky than bulky, as it suits his fighting style better).
- Devlin had a rough start to school due to a mixture of his former connection to Kevin 11,000 and never getting any kind of formal education prior to this point. A lot of kids (and even some teachers) treated him pretty poorly, but he didn’t talk to anyone about it since it “wasn’t as bad” as living on the streets and not wanting to “cause trouble” and get kicked out (the Tennyson-Greens would never, but it took him a while to fully believe that).
- While pretty terrible at reading and writing, Devlin’s great at learning new languages in terms of speaking and hearing them (he probably picked up a decent number prior to meeting the Tennysons, then learned even more from his new mom and fellow language geek Kai).
- The Tennyson-Greens took him in pretty quickly, but the first one to directly refer to Devlin as their family member was Lyn, using “He’s my brother too!” as a way to get Devlin to work on technology with her instead of fighting bad guys with Kenny. (Kenny immediately responded with “Well I found him first, so he was my brother first and hangs out with me first” and the two kept arguing about it. They probably don’t remember this exact moment because it was so natural to them, but it’s one of Devlin’s favorite memories.)
(I probably have way more headcanons than just these but this post is already a decent length.)
If any of my fellow fans have headcanons of their own, I’d love to hear them!
