They should make a digimon game where your partner digimon is usually in Rookie mode but can digivolve in the middle of battle or as part of the opening attack. They have the tech to sorta do it in Time Stranger... I wonder if they'll ever move toward this in the future.
It might get clunky as hell though, but I think I'd enjoy that, although I don't know if others would
