Ok i am partial to bitterness. But ED is a soap. Obviously people hold characters they stan up to a high expectation. But I think every character in Emmerdale has been a victim of poor, inconsistent writer, not the best storylines, missed opportunities. As much as I love ED i think its unrealistic to want this incredible story arcs that in soaps never really happen for more then one storyline. Im just appreciating the good we get in the weird journey. Or I may stand pearl she consistent
Hellooooooo anon!
I’m not sure if this is just a general ask or about me talking about my bitterness or if this is in response to some #stuff that’s going down right now (if it’s the latter, then I’m totally out of the loop). But yeah!
Every character in Emmerdale has been a victim of poor, inconsistent writing. I mean, to a degree. I definitely agree with you there. Obviously there are some characters who are written more consistently than others but everybody has at some point had a moment of weirdly OOC behavior or a storyline that never really got closure etc etc.
People do tend to scrutinize the characters they stan more closely (in particular in this fandom with Aaron/Robert obvz), and naturally do want the best possible writing for them. I personally don’t feel comfortable getting righteously angry with ED when they implement shit writing or shit storylines, because, like you say, this is a soap. It’s kind of part and parcel. If I want better writing then I need to go watch something else lmao.
But I also don’t think people can really help getting annoyed or bitter when the writing sucks or goes in a direction they hate. People are always gonna want the best for their characters and in particular when the writing is glaringly bad or dissatisfying, bitterness is kind of inevitable?
I mean basically. I agree with you, and I’m all for positivity. And appreciating the good on the weird journey is a fantastic approach and a great way of putting it. But I also grow weary of people (not saying you are doing this nonnie) trying to police the raw negative bitter reactions that some people just instinctively have when shit goes down they hate.
As far as my own bitterness, it has more to do with missing certain things from robron that I want in order to ship them harder. Emmerdale doesn’t #owe me those things, but I want them if I’m gonna stay super invested. So I’m bitter at missed opportunities because I get my hopes up for things like lodge mentions or deep conversations with actual resolution and then end up not getting them and it makes me grumpy. But like you say, I might as well let go of those hopes (and I’m tryingggggg) and just enjoy the good that we do get!
*fist bumps you for being my fellow Pearl stan*
