Y’all ever think that part of Arthur giving Merlin so many chores all the time is just Arthur reminding him to do basic servant shit so he doesn’t get fired by Uther… or just like to keep up the pretense of being a servant? Like… imagine if he didn’t remind Merlin, that dumbass would absolutely not get shit done and then everyone would wonder why the hell Merlin was still around and put Arthur in a weird position of confronting All That.

So then Arthur giving Merlin huge lists of things to do is just him once again protecting Merlin… which simultaneously allows him to be a bitch and annoy Merlin which is probably why he does it so often.
