"I don't want to have to kill you."

Far too many times they'd met like this and far too many times he'd come out on the losing end. No one wanted to kill the leader of the Separatists. Just like no one wanted the war to keep going forever. If they could bring in Count Dooku, if they could convince him to stop all of this things might actually get better. Unfortunately, he knew that it would never happen. He wasn't that naïve to think bringing in Dooku would stop the war. But he was the face of the Separatists and if anyone could get them to listen it would be him. Anakin just needed to find a way of stopping him that didn't involve killing. It didn't help the Council reminded him before he left that Dooku was meant to be brought in alive. He knew but he also knew that sometimes his ego got the better of him. "We both know your Separatists won't win this war. Stop it now."

@oncejedi gets the gayest thread we’ve had yet

 “PADAWAN TANO?” Barriss CALLED OUT to the figure a short distance in front of her. FINALLY, here was a moment of PEACE within war, finally they both had come to rest in the Temple at the same time amid their busy schedules as Padawans! 

The older Mirialan girl jogged slightly to catch up with Ahsoka, her hands bunching up her SKIRT slightly that her legs might have a bit more leeway to MOVE, looking a bit like a PRINCESS with the action. She offered the Togruta a gentle smile in GREETING before her expression once more became the SOLEMN one she was known for, her breaths soft and not yet TIRED. “How glad I am to have caught up with you, Ahsoka.” Barriss straight, smoothing out her skirt and righting herself.

“-- I have something very important to ask of you. Well, not -- not VERY important, but... rather important.” (There was something a LITTLE .... off about Barriss’s voice, a certain bashful quality that had never quite been present. Surely it was nothing?) “Where are you headed?”

Korra looks down, and her eyes widen when she sees the weapon on the stranger’s belt. Her shocks morphs to something akin to wonder. She’s at a loss for words for a moment, her hands shaking and her body vibrating with a building excitement she just can’t contain. 

“You!” She yelps eloquently. “You’re one too!”

“ maul is a weapon. a killer. do not forget it. “ for SAVAGE

 AH, WASN’T THIS SOMETHING HE KNEW? A vague memory he could see through the smoke of his past, perhaps, if he peered hard enough? Oh, didn’t he remember the bleakness of his own village, his true home? His mother’s solemn silhouette, the weight of Feral -- oh, just a baby then -- on his hip? Couldn’t he remember Maul back then, all the way back then, in that DIFFERENT LIFE? Wasn’t there truth, evidence of when Maul was not a weapon? When he was just like HER? 

Savage, deep down, wanted to believe it: that there had once upon a time been a place where he had had some SEMBLANCE of a family -- one that was perfect and lovely, one where all there was was EACH OTHER, as it should be (although a seemingly better part of him stayed convicted that it was a DREAM: nothing more). But no, surely reality was too cruel to bless him with such a past, however distant it was... right?

-- Was Maul not just like him? Was Maul not just like Ahsoka, taken away and raised and twisted to be the object that others WANTED them to be? 

 “As am I.” Oh, little padawan, can you see the blood upon these tattooed Zabrak hands? Can you peer into the Force and see the atrocities they’ve committed? Can you feel the warmth of Feral’s throat, still reverberating like a baseless echo through Savage’s Signature, through those hands? Can you look into those emotionless Dathomirian eyes and recognize the fact that being a weapon and a killer and a servant was what Savage was BENT to do, was what the universe decided his purpose would be? “... do not you forget it, Padawan.”

Which was worse? The man who willingly chose to kill, or the man who was engineered to? What was it Ahsoka was trying to change ---- and could she change it?

WHEN HAD A RAGGED JAIL CELL TURNED TO A WARM, HOMELY SHIP? When had her haggard expression smoothed into one of peace? When had she traded a defensive little vibroshiv for another lightsaber (oh, how comfortable it felt in the palm of her hand again, how sweet was its songlike hum)? When had Ahsoka forgiven her? Where had all of Barriss Offee’s time gone, all these days, all these months, all these years? When had she become a grown woman with long hair that seemed to cry out in reminiscience of Luminara’s? When had she found herself a vessel of the Rebellion? 

---- When had she found herself here, feeling contentment she didn’t deserve, next to the woman she loved more than anything in the galaxy, next to the woman she first burned? 

 Her gaze shifted to the Togruta in the cot parallel to hers -- oh, how it reminded her of the ship they once inhabited, when brain invaders were something to worry about for some reason -- and she reached out to feel her familiar Signature, to draw its peacefulness close to her as a source of comfort. “Ahsoka.” She whispered, her voice void of urgency. “-- Ahsoka.”

          “Ahsoka.” That’s pain in her voice ----- pain for a girl so young betrayed by those who meant the WORLD to her. Padmé had always seen the Togruta is a younger sister, someone that she could mold and protect with her whole  h e a r t. But Padmé wasn’t strong enough to protect Ahsoka from everything. “I haven’t seen you since...” Her words trail off, not wanting to speak of the departure from the Order ALOUD. “How have you been? Anakin--- General Skywalker.... He misses you.” More than he would ever admit.
