Isaac looked over at Derek, tears in his eyes. He had known this day would come. Things had been too peaceful in the last few weeks. 

"I'm sorry Derek," Isaac whispered, pressing their daughter into his arms. "Protect her." 

They'd been out for a family picnic when the Hunter's ambushed them. Despite running as hard as they could, having a one year old slowed you down. He would not let them get his daughter and his mate. "Tell her I loved her." 

"Please....don't," Derek begged, tears in his eyes. Isaac shook his head though. Derek was faster than him, stronger. That was what their daughter needed. Especially since she was about to lose half of what she'd always known. 

Isaac stepped out of the trees, calling the hunters attention to him and away from his mate. The shots ran through the trees but Derek was already far away. He heard though. He heard and he felt.

His heart broke that day.
