Oncorus Celebrates Its 2017 NEVY Award Nomination
Hosted by the New England Venture Capital Association, the annual NEVY Awards recognize those individuals and organizations that are making the biggest impact on New England’s innovation economy. Two panels of business leaders and investors choose nominees from the fields of life sciences and technology. Awards are given in categories such as clean tech company of the year, digital health company of the year, rising star entrepreneur, and angel investor of the year. In 2017, the next-generation oncolytic virus immunotherapy company Oncorus received a NEVY Award nomination for Hottest Early Stage Startup: Therapeutics. Since it launched in July 2016 with $57 million in Series A financing, Oncorus has been making headlines for its work in the cutting-edge field of oncolytic viruses. Its innovative immunotherapy platform builds upon the earlier success of first-generation oncolytic viruses (such as T-VEC, the original oncolytic virus, which received FDA approval in 2015) by improving viral potency through the preservation of important replication genes. The NEVY nomination is an important reflection of the potential of Oncorus’ research as it relates to both the field of cancer treatment and New England’s economic development.
