After the Rain
After the rain, The ground is smooth. The ground is smooth, Its thirst appeased; It understands now that there is fulfillment in the rain. In the rain lies a promise, A promise of new beginnings, Of hope, and the possibility to start over. As the fog clears And the mist gives way to clear light, It sets in. The knowledge seeps into every pore of its being, Settles in the cracked bones and weary joints, Soothes, Like the melting of butter on hot cakes. The ground absorbs it the way young children's eyes drink in wonder, The way love sweeps in a hurricane, The way sunlight dapples across hardwood floors. After the rain, There are new beginnings.
