Why people believe him to be Jewish? Because of the nose (or ugly/slimey/(as most people say and I disagree) evil)? Is Hitler still putting up campaigns? Did I miss something? Is it still ‘39? (For me, he’s an atheist, because if there is a god, why did he suffer so much before his first wrong action?) BTW, thanks for those. I love them!
The Jewish headcanon starts based on his physical description. Some people then go a point out the history of Jewish people, especially as they were treated in Europe, and try to fit Severus’ situation to match that to some extent. Personally, I believe it’s too much over-analysis, leading some people to find “deeply-rooted anti-semitism” in the books where this none. I’ve never read him as Jewish, so I first came across the headcanon, my reaction was more of what? where did this come from?? I don’t see evidence in canon??? There’s usually an explanation that comes with it, but I’m still left feeling like what? where did this come from?? I still don’t see how canon evidence fits??? It’s not that I’m hating on it ‘cause ya know, you do you or whatever, different interpretations of the text (that I feel are too left field), blah blah blah, etc., etc, etc., I just feel that that’s not who he is--Jewish. This headcanon I’ve seen most commonly stem from Eileen’s family, and that felt wrong to me. Like I said, I’m not hating on the headcanon nor am I going to actively go around and fight someone on it, saying “YOU’RE WRONG AND HERE’S WHY!!111!!” Again, different interpretations. What I headcanon his parents to be is another post all together (in which I would go too deep, it gets too long), and even on that, someone else might say I’m too far reaching in my headcanon as I say they are in the Jewish one.
I feel he’s more agnostic than an atheist because I agree that he holds the same mentality of, “because if there is a god, why did he suffer so much before his first wrong action,” but he also believes there is some greater being otherwise he would’ve been long dead.
Your satire is on point, and made me chuckle a bit, I’ll have to admit. Anyway, thanks for the love and I hope you find my answer helpful!
