Open letter to the one percenters
Diary of a turtle letter 1/out of many.
This is for the one percenters. The people who have more money than i could ever imagine having. Have you ever had to wonder if you might have a place to sleep at night because your single mother barely makes enough to support one person? Have you ever had to think if you should eat that last pack of ramen now when you're just a little bit hungry or if you should save it for a later time when you have no other food? Do you wonder what might happen if your mother's food stamps will be cut short again or if your insurance won't cover you any longer? Do you think about the 100 million people who don't have homes, who are wandering the streets struggling to get by when you buy the new IPhone 7 because the last five you scratched? When you cry because your daddy won't give you $10,000 for a new Rolex because you neglected to care for your or last one do you think about the people who cant even spell the word Rolex without looking it up since there are so many kids who don't even know what school is? When you go back to your high and mighty private school do you pity the 50.4 million students who attend public schools? There are so many more questions i could ask hoping that you would rethink your greed, position in society, and arrogance but i really want to know one thing. Even though you sit on your thrones, do you still know we’re all human. You are the same as me and every person on this planet. For the one percenters who are truly good people with hearts and human feeling this is not for you, this is for the one percenters who think they are better than everyone else. You one percenters honestly aren’t better than any other person in this world. I am 16 and i already wonder how can horrible people such as yourselves be that way. I want you to understand how i may be 16 but i half know and half hope i will be a better person in my heart then you will ever be. I was born with no money living with my grandparents. My real father chose drugs over me. My mother has a rare disease with no real treatment because only 5,000 people have it. She has headaches everyday so she physically can't get a real job nor can she receive disability checks. I must have live in at least ten different places from birth to three years old because my mom couldn't afford anything. When i was six months old an abusive ass entered my life. When i was three my half brother was born. When my half brother was five he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. For a couple years i was only allowed to eat when he could. I used to have to sneak food up to my room because i was so hungry sometimes. Because of my mom's disease she slept most of the day everyday so i was raised by someone who emotionally abused me til the day he left. My door is broken because i used to try to hide in my room to get away from my half brothers father but he would break it open and ruin the things in my room and break my stuff to make me upset. I still don't like horror movies because he forced me to watch them. He's used to punish us by making us sit in our room at night in the dark and he would taunt us by tapping on walls and making horror movie noises. In kindergarten my teachers realized i was gifted. In first i realized i was smarter than most people. In second grade i realized i was different. In third grade i realized i hated my body. In fourth i developed an eating disorder. In fifth grade i realized i was depressed. In six grade i hated myself. In seventh grade i hated my life. In eighth grade i started counseling. In ninth i became severely depressed and started on antidepressants. Now in tenth i still take antidepressants and they help but life makes my depression worse. I am as human as you with as many flaws as you but you as one percenters should realize you are humans as well.
