Reaffirmed Resolution [Drabble]
And so it was the end of a long, fairy-tale dream, a dream that was reality but only for a little while. Eventually, dreams had to come to an end, did they not? Thus, she was awoken from it, abruptly, without warning, without words, without notice, it had ended.
When she first arrived here, she had met so many people and experienced many things, most of these people and experiences only capable of being met in this world. She had gained both comrades and those that she could proudly state as her friends.
Friends. It was interesting.
Back in her world, was there anyone she could truly, truly, call her friend? Gabriella was important, but she had no right to call her a friend. And One was herself, so he could not count either. Her sisters were her family, so while they were on terms like those of friends, it was not the same. Thus, she had, to quite some degree, been alone. Yet here, she was not alone. In fact... she had even gained someone that had managed to grow close to her heart.
He had become someone she had never expected to have, not only a friend, and not just an apostle, but a lover, a precious person to her. He had given her love and affection and she had been able to return it. He had let her find a self that she thought did not exist within her. She had helped him with some of his wounds and scars just as he had helped her. Together, it seemed, that they might have made each other feel more complete than they ever had before.
It was surreal. It was a dream that was reality. But like all dreams... it could only last so long.
One day, he was gone. No farewells, no indications of parting, just his existence was gone from this world. Returned, she had concluded, returned to his world and so was the girl who had his heart before she did.
Once, did One hear how when those who were brought here are returned to their world that they would not have memories of this place or the things that happened here. Thus, that was the end, wasn't it? He would not remember her and his life would play out the way it should have from the very beginning.
She would fight, but there was nothing she could fight, even she knew that. Maybe one day they would meet again, should the scientists be so cruel to bring here here after returning him once, but would it be the same?
Would he be the same, would she?
There was no telling and so she could not hold on to that small thought, she had to move on. One was not someone who remained stationary when there was still things for her to do, things for her that she could do.
It had been nice, it had been more than satisfying, and it had brought her a happiness that she was sure that she'd have little chance to experience again. Those times will be locked away in a place within her heart where they can never be disturbed, but she could not let them bind her from walking forward. She wasn't the type to let feelings like these slow her down, no matter how precious they were to her.
And as she thought, she realized just how enamored she was by him and his love. She was not ashamed and she did not regret it, she would not sully the love that she had experienced with him. However, she could not remain in that dream forever. Thus, she had regained her resolve once more.
The only path left to her was the one that she must tread alone and that is the path that she would take. After all, this was the only thing left that she could do.
