Yeah, I think the way the current search system is set up I think facilitates harassment, though it was of course still a problem even without it.
I'd say that as unpleasant as some interactions on this website can be, I still find it worthwhile to interact with people. Though I avoid posting about certain things, such as more explicitly political content most of the time now for my own peace of mind. It's harder for me to take people seriously if they choose to insult me for talking about my day, or my lunch, or for reblogging rabbit pictures, all of which I do on a rather frequent basis. One of the more volatile things I post about is my criticism of the various fan material I'm into, and occassionally I do get unpleasant responses to that, so I adjust the amount of fan posts I make to my overall energy levels so that it doesn't get unmanageable.
While it's not possible to avoid every unpleasant reblog, I do think there are a few things that can be done to reduce their impact. One thing I keep in mind is I'm not obliged to rearrange my schedule to reply to every post. Which means I often either ignore posts I dislike, or, if I find either the post or poster bothersome enough, I block them. 'Enough' being a term I define for myself the parameters of and don't feel like it needs to be something I have justify externally, and certainly not to the people I'm blocking or ignoring. I already have enough trouble keeping up with the posts I want to reply to, so I don't want to waste so much time trying to reply to things that don't make sense to me or make me angry or are obvious putdowns.
One thing I noticed was that the last time I blocked someone, it looked like the reblog on the other person's blog disappeared too! Like, not only did the notification disappear, but also the post itself.
One common cause of me blocking people is that we have wildly clashing political beliefs. I'm not of the opinion that the best way to learn about opposing political beliefs is through active debate. I think the best way to do that is through passive absorbsion. People can find writings with political beliefs of all types on the internet and elsewhere--there's no need to debate someone, and indeed the people available to you for debate may have too inferior an understanding of their own beliefs, or too much a motivation to deceive an opponent, to allow you to properly understand their belief system anyway.
Well, I guess that's enough of me rambling on. Hope you find something helpful in that mess, and I wish you luck in avoiding any cursed reblogs or replies!
